5 Month Old Vomiting

So my 5 month old daughter woke up with a fever this morning and threw up once. Then I got her back to sleep after taking Tylenol and she even nursed again. But now she cannot keep any fluids down. I am wondering if it's a coincidence or if anyone has had any issues before but I got a flu shot yesterday (OKAY'D by the pediatrician) and now she's sick today. Just curious if anyone else has ever had issues before or heard of anyone with a baby reacting to a flu shot the mom got. I"m currently waiting for the pediatrician to call me back.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much! So we are going on an hour now that she has kept a few ounces of breastmilk down. I did get about 2ml Of pedialyte down her after I started reading your responses. She is still hovering around @ 100 temp. But let's hope she the worse has past. So yes the Dr said it was just a coincidence with the timing of my flu shot, I just found it odd. Thanks again everyone!

she is more likely to have caught a virus at the dr office getting the shot. I have never heard of any issues with the shot and it affecting milk. Sick babies are the worst. Dont be afraid to take her to the dr if you even suspect she might be dehydrated.

With incubation time being what it is, it's likely what ever she's picked up she was exposed to it several days ago to last week.
Try her on Pedialyte or small sips of water (very little at a time, then wait 15 min, and if it stays down then a little bit more, repeat).
If she's slowing down on wetting diapers then she's dehydrating and she'll need to go to the hospital for an IV to rehydrate her.
Stay in touch with your pediatrician - call him now if you haven't already.

I did not have any issuse with the shot and nursing.

But some people do get sick with the shot, I never have.

1. it could just be a coincidence..
2. Where did you go for you shot- lots of germs, she could have picked it up that way.

Many reasons..

I am sorry she is sick.. hopefully it ends soon.

I did not have the issue in conjunction with a flu shot - but I have had an infant with a stomach virus. It's awful, I'm so sorry you are going through this.

My ped advised to try to keep getting fluids down. First, I tried nursing just for a few minutes every 30min to an hour. If the baby can keep it down for even 10 minutes, she'll keep some of the fluids. He also advised me that if that didn't work, go to pedialyte. Again, very small amounts in a bottle very frequently (it was like 1 oz every 15-30 min, or someting like that), so it's less likely to come up. If the fever is high and the previous dose of tylenol has worn off, your ped may also recommend a suppository dose of tylenol (FeverAll), available in any drug store, Target, etc. But you should definitely talk to your ped first for the dose.

If she really can't hold fluids down and is getting listless or is crying with no tears, then you need to go to the ER ASAP for IV fluids. Dehydration can be very serious in a baby because they don't have reserves.
