5 Week Old Won't Take Bottle

I am exclusively breastfeeding my 5 week old son. I introduced the bottle to him a couple of weeks ago so i could pump and be able to give him a bottle. I tried the Playtex VentAire bottles and he refuses them. I also tried some evenflow bottles. I was wondering if anyone's ever used the FirstYears Breastflow bottles. I want something that is the closest to breastfeeding so he will take it. He gags on all the other nipples and gets really frustrated with them.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wow! Thanks for all the advice! I got the Playtex nursers with the natural nipple. He latched on immediately! What a relief! Now i can go on dates with hubby again. It was nice not to waste my money on buying another bottle that he refused. Thanks again!

I found that when my kids FINALLY took a bottle, that they did best with the Avent bottles. I think that the nipple most resembles the breast...at least to my little guys. Good luck!

Kudos to you for giving your baby the best milk! When I went from breast to bottle with my youngest, we also had a hard time finding a nipple that didn't gag her. I ended up using the Playtex "Real Feel" nipples (that was back in 96, I think they are called "Natural Infant Nipple" now) even though there was more air with the bottle. Just stop more frequently to release the air from the bottle and burp your son. Being only 5 weeks old, you might want to look specifically for a Newborn size and see if that helps also. Good luck!

Have you tried the playtex nursers? The ones with the bags?? They work really well. That is what I used with my first son and will be using with my next baby. I'm pretty sure the nipple is different from the vent-aire bottles, but not 100%. I haven't tried the first years breast-flow. But the nursers are very similar to the breast as they get very little air because of the bags. Just make sure to squeeze as much air as you can out of them. I hope these for for you. Good Luck!!

I love the ventaire! Both my son's took to them great. Which size are you using. I use both the fat and the skinny ones. When my youngest was first born though, he liked the skinny ones better, now he likes the fat ones, but he will take both.
