My daughter is turning 5 in April and I would like to have a b-day party near or in the surrounding Algonquin area with about 5 kids. Any fun ideas that are reasonably priced?

What can I do next?

Hello,

How about a Mc Donald's play place or Chuck E. Cheese?

Also, We just went to a great B-day party at Pump it Up On Roselle Road.
But, I don't know how much it would cost.

Have fun planning!

Hi Kelly -

We wanted a reasonable place without having to have everyone drive 30+ miles to get there - we ALSO wanted NOT to have to do the "HUGS", "PIU"<pumpitup>, or things like that. My daughter suggested taking everyone OUT TO LUNCH. At first it was a shock, then she stated ~ I just want everyone to be 'happy' - we can all get "Happy Meals". It turned out GREAT!!! I went to the local Mc'D's and talked to the manager, found out the 'slow' time around lunch hour and had the class meet us at that McD's. They all ate, opened gifts and had an ice cream cone before going home. WE had put up balloons and brought in our own napkins and such - SIMPLE - easy and clean up and "out the door" - my husband asked in the parking lot "Gee, why didn't WE ever think of this??!!"

Good Luck.

Now, SAHM of six - ranging from 22 - 5.

There is a lady who lives in Fox River Grove who does the "stuff yourself" animals, plus outfits, accessories and birth certificates for them. You can get them very inexpensively if you want to do the party yourself...just purchasing the materials.

Hi, I have a 6 yr old. For her 5th birthday we hired a clown, Bubbles, to come here and entertained the children. She was fantastic, she had balloon animals she did for the children, face painting, and games. I was really surprised at how well the children were sitting there nicely when Bubbles was doing the face painting and balloons. She kept them interested by talking and asking questions as she was busy with the activities. She was not expensive at all. She was in the yellow pages. Hope this helps.

there is a place in C.L. near Josephs it's the party outlet and in the back of the store they make stuff animals. I did this party once at my home and the girls reaally lovedit, they get to pick out any animal and stuff and then name it and adopt it. hope this helps. i also had a fairy princess party and all the girls came to the house dressed as their favorite princess and we made wands and tairas that was a pretty fun party we have some great pictures of that party.

we loved the nature center in Crytal lake. It cost 130 and you provide your own food- we had ours 1-3 and just brought a cookie cake.

For my daughter's fourth birthday we took her and four of her friends to the theatre in Woodstock for a Saturday matinee. I took them in our van by myself. They walked in a line like little ducks holding hands. I got them all a little kid tray that has popcorn, a small drink, and a tiny chocolate candy. Then we went home and played a few fun games and had frozen pizza later. I spent about $20 bucks for all of them. I think I may have had a birthday coupon. But it is a really inexpensive little theatre and it is small so you don't worry about losing kids. I recommend that you take someone along though in case you have a bathroom emergency...don't want to leave the others by themselves. I made sure everyone went before the movie, but that doesn't always work with five year olds.

I tied long balloons to their ankles with ribbon and they ran around trying to pop eachother's balloons. The last one with a balloon got a prize.

Then we played pin the tail on the donkey with stickers instead of pins. Number plain round stickers so you know which one belongs to whom. You can even glue a tail to the sticker if you want.

A little treasure hunt. I drew pictures of objects in the house that were easily recognizalbe. They found each object and found a picture for the next one. That took them around the house until they found a little red jewelry box with gold chocolate coins.

Then we played a board game. I like the Ladybug game alot. It's pretty easy, but only four kids can play. Playing GO Fish is fun, but not all kids that age know their alphabet or numbers...you could try to find one with objects on it.

Have fun!!! Hope some of that helped.

Hi Kelly,
My younger daughter attended a bday party at Hugs at had lots of fun. Some moms in my moms group go there for open gym on Fridays. I believe the same people own the gym in Crystal Lake and while I haven't been there for a bday party, we had our easter egg hunt there last year for Mom-2-Mom. Another mom in the group is having her daughters party at My Secret Garden in Algonquin. We did an event there and they have lots of dress up clothes and they have tea parties (they had boy stuff as well). You could also try Handmade on Main or Color Me Mine and do a crafty party. My daughter is having an ice skating bday party next month at the Crystal Ice House. You could also try Randall Oaks Zoo, they have inexpensive party packages and then you could tour the zoo. I volunteer there and it opens on weekends in April.

Good luck and have a great day
