My daughter started having to wear it at 5 too. I think it's just her make-up. It's shocking though isn't it? I was mortified at first, but hey, I'd rather her not smell! :)
Hello, Ladies:
I was wondering if anyone has experienced under arm odor in their small girls? She drinks only organic milk, but only sometimes organic yogurt and never organic cheese. But, doesn't really consume a ton of any of these. There are no other signs of puberty, thankfully and I have consulted w/her pediatrician who didn't seem too concerned. I do not want to start using deodorant on my 5 year old, but if I must I'll only do Tom's or something all natural. What is up????
thanks for your input!
thanks for the words of encouragement and support. I'm glad to know others seem to have experienced the same thing w/their girls. I'll try Tom's.
thanks again,
J.

My daughter started with this at age three and doctor said not to worry but when she was five, now six, I just happened to notice she had under are hair! Took her back to doctor who thought it could, be precious puberty. We had to have her hormone levels checked and see a specialist and lucky for us it all came back normal., im still confused but make sure you keep eye on cause I did research and its not that un common and, better to catch so she doesn't start a period at age six. It was very emotional for us , so good luck
My daughter [now 8] and my 3yr old son both have their own Tom's of Maine deoderant. Mine bathe AT LEAST every other day... And every other day only if they've not done anything to make them dirty or sweaty that day.
It's probably not puberty. Both of my kids are pretty stinky. My daughter started with Tom's deoderant at about late age 5/early 6.
You could try the crystal type stuff too. I've used that on my son's feet!
I think some kids just swet more than others. I know my kids coach encourgaes them all to wear deodorant. If it continues you probably need to have her use some so she does not get teased.
Good luck and God Bless!!
How often is she bathing? Also, is she changing her clothes into CLEAN clothes?
I had a problem once with my youngest wanting to wear the dirty clothes that were in the hamper. ICK!
A doctor will refer a child to an endocrinologist to have tests done if he or she suspects a problem, but if yours is not too concerned that's great. My daughter had one nipple that seemed to be budding at around 4, and her pediatrician suspected precocious puberty, he had me watch for other signs but there were no further symptoms.

Regular cow's milk is sometimes a culprit due to the hormones, but since your daughter is drinking organic already i would start her out with Tom's deodorant. My 2.5 year old would love it if he got to use it, lol, he thinks deodorant is cool and tries to use mine! ; )
I've always heard you are what you eat. Whenever I eat onion, garlic, or spicy foods I smell it during a workout or when I wake up in the morning.
Also, using an earth friendly detergent free of perfumes and dyes made a difference.
Is she eating anything with soy? I read somewhere that soy could cause the body to produce more estrogen, good for older women but bad for kids. I can't remember where I saw it though, sorry.
With my son, the switch TO organic milk stopped it. But that's not a factor for you.....I'd go with Tom's after the bath/shower.
Kelly C is correct. This falls in the normal range.
Some bodies of girls just mature faster.
Make sure she bathes well and is completely dry before putting on her PJ's. She may needs a little deodorant and if the hair under arms gets fairly thick you can shave them for her.
We have a neighbor girls that this happened to at this age. Her mother was horrified, but the doctor checked and tested the girl and told the mom not to worry.
Maybe it's the brand of organic milk. If she switched to regular milk for a month, maybe the smell would go away. At least she would know if that is why your girl is smelling.
