5Year Old Peeing Issue

I found a 2 liter soda bottle in my 5 year old daughters closet today, with her urine in it. I asked her why she did it and she just said "I don't know." She did admit to it, just not to why. She has done things like this a few other times. Like I found a cup of her urine on the counter in the bathroom, same thing in the shower. And she peed in the bottle in the bathroom she says, so its not a bladder control issue. I am currently 9 months pregnant with baby number 3, her little brother is 18 months. So maybe it has to do with that? Really hope someone has ANY experience with this cause I don't know what to do!

What can I do next?

My little sister used to do that, just wanted to throw that out there, but she stopped. I think it was a body facination thing, she grew out of it very quickly. Its definitely not a bladder control issue, its a urine placement one, lol...just encourage her to use the toilet. I don't think anyone that does that has an excellent reason that they do, maybe shes just a little independant one that wants to do her own thing? *sigh* Just wanted to share that I have seen it before, hope you get some good advice!

When my son was younger (he's 8 now), he started peeing in different things, like toy bins and what not. When we found out, we asked him about it. He admitted it. We explained that the reason we have the toilet is to put urine in it so that it takes it away from the house. The reason we want it taken away is that it's not clean (or it smells, or it can make you sick...). He stopped.
Don't know why he did it. Just because. Maybe sometimes he just didn't want to have to stop playing to go to the bathroom? Who knows!?

It is a control thing and I say it is working because it has your attention. Talk to her and tell her what the others have said about removing the urine. And you say she pees into a bottle-well she certainly has good aim for a little girl-even they can't always hit the "target" Don't forget when you go to your preganacy checks the drs. make you "pee" into a cup-has she seen this? She may be acting like you-talk to her and explain all about your pregnancy and what you must do-she does not need to do it but can be there and ask you questions-which by the way you will answer with all the truth you have.

I'm sure that it's difficult for you, as well as being very messy. She probably just enjoys filling up the bottles, and figuring out how much she can put in the bottles. A lot of kids do similar things. It's pretty normal, but I have heard of more boys doing such things than girls. Just let her know that it can damage carpet if it spills, and you don't enjoy having to clean up her messes. Tell her that if she will stop, you will get her some bottles to fill up with water...when she wants to play with them.

Good luck!

Kids do all kinds of things that seem crazy to us. Sometimes it's a simple matter of control. If you never specifically said don't do it then why not...?? lol With her having a younger sibling and another one on the way soon, it may just be for attention. Maybe make a point of spending some extra time with just her, even if it's at bathtime or sitting together with a book. Maybe give her something special for "big sisters" only. Nailpolish. Lip balm/gloss. (my daughter got her ears pierced becasue she told me that "big sisters" were supposed to have their ears pierced...??? It helped her to have something special). Take turns doing pedicures (messy, but fun, and you can always wear closed toe shoes if it's really bad...:D). It's not always about what they are doing but what they are hoping to get from what they are doing.... Attention. (Little brother pees in his diaper, or maybe is potty training, so she sees that as how he gets attention). Anyway, just my thoughts on the matter. Good luck and try not to worry too much.
