6 Month Old and Solids

Gabby has completely adapted to eating solids. She's now eating 3 meals a day and enjoying 28 ounces of formula as well. She always has a bottle first so that i know she's not getting full from her meals. However, when is enough enough? My daughter seems insatiable. Tonight I gave her roughly 8.5 ounces of stage 1 and stage 2 food. All veggies and 1 small container of peaches.
She is 18.5 lbs, 27.5 inches long and has sprouted 2 little teeth! I can tell when she just wants something to suck on - like the spoon - and when she's actually hungry. I asked the pedi and he said to let her eat!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much to all the words of encouragement. I feel better now that's for sure. I also put in a call to my pedi just to run things by him again. I am going to post another request just to get some more feedback from all of the wonderful mom's on here!

I think we could all learn a lot from babies about eating! They eat when they are hungry and they will stop when they are full. Trust her--she knows what she's doing.
I always cut back O. bottle (say with lunch) then gave a bottle before naptime.....

sounds like she is doing well. go with the flow. she is tall for her age. be happy she is eating well and do not worry about the rest. hopefully she is not too cranky with the new teeth coming in. if she is try the hylands teething tablets which are homeopathic. you are doing well. enjoy your daughter.

My son ate like that for MONTHS. (and is not overweight) Perhaps you could ask the ped. whether she is ready for the YoBaby yogurts? They certainly pack more calories per ounce than baby food, so maybe they'd fill her up more quickly...

Hi D., Here's a couple of suggestions for you. First, start feeding her first, then give her a bottle to "top her off". You also can thicken up her veggies and fruit with ceral...like rice, oatmeal or mixed. The ceral will give her extra vitimins and make the fruits/veggies more filling. I used to feed my girls a jar veggies & one of fruit at every meal and for breakfast I gave them a regular sized container of Yoplay custard style yogurt or a banana and ceral mixed with formula. You can also start her on finger foods like toast, cooked soft veggies etc. It sounds like your little one is going through a growth spurt and it's been my experience that kids tend to eat/drink more through those (I guess it's because their little bodies are working so hard they need the fuel!). Best wishes!

No such thing as too much! She won't overeat. If she's hungry-she'll eat! Is she sleeping through the night? That is the true test. If she is waking up at night, she needs to eat more during the day. There is no need to ever "stop" feeding her, as long as she's eating healthy food!

I agree... let her eat! We never used the stage 1 foods because my son (at 4 months) would eat 2 jars of them, so we went right to stage 2 and by 6 months he was eating the stage 3, and what ever I was pureeing at home. The difference in puree level is almost unnoticable, and the stage 3 stuff is still way more pureed that I can do at home with a blender, so buy the bigger jars and save your money-- sounds like you are going to need it, grin! ;-)

Oh, the organic applesause from giant eagle (in the regular section, not baby food) is much cheaper than the baby food stuff. Just FYI.

I think I started my son on stage 3 foods at that age. He was a hungry boy. Keep feeding her until she refuses to open her mouth or turns her head away. If you move up to stage 3 foods, make sure you check all ingredients on the labels. They start using eggs in some stage 3 foods & babies aren't supposed to get that until at least 9 months.

I agree with the doc. Let her eat! As long as she's meeting her formula requirement every day, let her eat as much as she wants. One of my boys would eat and eat until he threw up, then want more.. cuz he just made room! LOL So we started checking his stomach. When it felt hard, he was done!

I agree with your pediatrician. Just let her eat. She will tell you when she is full. Children at this age tend to eat a lot, especially if they are going through growth spurts. Your pediatrician will let you know at each of your visits if he/she feels your daughter has gained too much weight. Until such time, don't worry and just let your daughter eat the amount she wants.
