6 Month Old Is in Pattern of Waking Twice a Night Now

My baby girl has for months had the pattern of waking once, which I thought was bad enough, but the last two weeks she is up at midnight and then 4 am and then up for the day at 6. Both times, she screams her head off until she is fed and then goes back to sleep. She has never been the type who will sleep for 8-10 hours (which I would love). She doesn't seem to be in pain, but does anyone have any suggestions? I am sooo tired.

What can I do next?

Hi L.-
Sad for you- she's just hungry & needs a cuddle and a change along with food. She must be growing- they go through periods like this. It will end- my son went back to once per night somewhere between nine months and a year. Don't know that it helps, but it does help to have others acknowledge the problem, huh? :-) Hope it helps. She's probably going thru a growth spurt. Try increasing her formula (or nursing) before bedtime and see if that cuts down on how often she is waking. God luck.

I have a son thta will be 8 months at the end of this month. Around 6-7months he went thru a growth spurt where he would wake up wanting to be fed, he was also getting his first tooth, which caused him to wake up too. Hang in there..if it is a growth spurt she will be over it soon.

We increase my son's food when he starts doing this. If you haven't started solids, talk to your pediatrician about starting. We started pretty early because our little whirlwind was still up so often at 4.5 months. We've gradually increased the amount of cereal in both his meals as well as the amount of baby food each time he started waking up 2x a night (now about 3T cereal and a big jar of food at each meal) until he's back to sleeping til 5 or 6.

I am also a mom to a 6 month old baby boy. He just started sleeping through the night 2 weeks ago. He was up from 5-15 times a night just needing comfort to go back to sleep. She may be going through a growth spurt if she is wanting to be feed. My doctor told me to let him cry for 5-10 minutes before coming to him in the middle of the night. He was so tired, he put himself back to sleep.

I had some pretty bad sleep issues with my daughter. She was waking up several times through the night up until she was about 8 months, wanting to be "fed" but would fall asleep almost instantly when she got latched on. I read (can't remember which book...What to expect the first year, maybe?) that babies should be sleeping through the night after they're 6 months or so, even if they are growing (of course they are...it's a baby!). That if you feed them through the night, a baby's bodies will start training itself to eat at night instead of kinda shut their metabolism down like they're supposed to. Not that you should deny her food if she truly is hungry, but maybe you should let her cry for 15 minutes or so (as hard as it is...I know!) and see if she'll go back to sleep. And a good feeding right before bed (with maybe some cereal or something heavier that has more staying power than just milk alone) should help too. Hang in there and good luck!

Is she eating foods yet? My little one did the samething til she was eating food. The more active the get the more calories then are going to need to keep satisfied. I am not telling you how to feed your little girl, I am just sharing my experience with mine.I try to make sure she gets a good meal about an hour before she goes to bed. Hope you can get some sleep.
