my baby is on schedule for the most part i bathe him at 730 then he eats (breast fed) and is in bad at 8pm he sleeps until about 2am and i feed him again and he doesnt wake again until 8am. my question is do you think there is a way to cut out the 2am feeding. ive heard let him cry it out and then hell get the point and stop waking?? i think he just wants to be comforted back to sleep and isnt really hungry???

What can I do next?

He probably really is hungry at this age. If he's only waking once a night, he's sleeping much more than other babies his age. Breastmilk goes through a baby's system in about 30 minutes. One thing you could try is to nurse him again just before you go to bed. You could try it for a couple days and see what happens.

I agree. At 6 months he probably needs that 2 am feeding. You're fortunate he sleeps that long.

Sorry, I think you should keep the feeding. This is about the time for another growth spurt. Soon he will drop the 2am feeding and you will be able to get more rest. As others have posted the first year you don't get to sleep that much.

I adopted a baby and he had a midnight feeding that was finally dropped about 9 months old and I worked full time. So it is doable. My other I breastfed on demand and I think her feedings were around 8pm and 2 or 3 am.

Good luck to you.

My son will be 6 months the end of this week, and some nites he wakes to eat at 12, 2 and 4 and other nites he sleeps thru till 6. Some of those time, he falls back to sleep with in 10 minutes, so its not like I'm losing hours of sleep. I know soon he won't be feeding at all and he will be a little boy- so I just enjoy this time while he is still a baby and whether he is hungry or in need of comfort, I respond. Also if I don't feed him thru the nite it becomes uncomfortable for me and I am leaking by morning/.

I wouldnt cut out the 2am at this point. As you start adding more solid food to his diet, he will regulate himself and start sleeping longer.

As far as schedules go, you have it pretty good. At 6mos my little guy wanted a 10pm and 2am and a 4:30am very consistently.

He will also tend to wake to eat more or cluster feed as growth spurts happen - usually about every 6 weeks so be observant.

He's 6 months and only wakes once in the night? Wow - You dont know how lucky you are! Seriously, my babies woke every 3 hours until they were a year (breakstfed babies usually do).

I'd keep the feeding for a while. Like I said, most breastfed babies wake a couple of times during the night most of the way through their first year. I know you want a full night's sleep again, but be patient. He still needs the feeding.

I'm jealous of your once a night! My 1 year old still wakes up at least twice, as did my older daughter. Is it really bothering you? I'm not a cry it out person. I think do it for a little while and then in a few months, start to taper off. Good luck and even though it feels tough, once a night is not bad for many of us going through multiple wake ups! You'll look bad on those nighttime feedings fondly someday. :)
