Occasional bedwetting is not that unusual at that age. I used to babysit a lot as a teenager and I knew kids in at least 2 families with that problem. A good place to start is with a waterproof matress pad (one for the whole matress under the sheets and a small one over the sheet so you don't have to change the bed in the middle of the night). Next wake him up and take him to the bathroom after he has been asleep 60-90 minutes (or right before you go to sleep). You don't have to talk to him, just guide him to the bathroom.

I would have been scared too. As for peeing the bed there are beepers out there. My daughter learned to wake up to go pee pee from it! It took about 1-2 weeks to work. My brother used to wake up and pee on his floor. Some kids are deep sleepers it is not you. Try the beeper. Ebay sells them cheaper and yes they are still new!

Good luck!

Get him up before you go to bed to go to the bathroom every night. I'd also put a pad on his bed. They have the real thick ones they use in the hospitals and nursing homes that work the best!! I think you can find them online.

If you find him sleepwalking, just walk him to the bathroom and let him do his business and then walk him back. They say it's best not to wake up a sleepwalker.

As for the TV in his room - I'd get that out of there. Kids who have TVs and computers in their rooms never come out once they are teens.... We have a TV and computer in the family room never ever in the bedroom. We don't allow iTouches (their friends have those) or cell phones in the bedrooms either.

YMMV

Sleepwalking at his age is perfectly normal, but there could be an underlying issue that is causing him to urinate. I would discuss it with his pediatrician.

Talk to his doctor. Sleep walking could be a sign of many things. As for the bed wetting, it is normal to a point even at 6, but they have medications that can sometimes help.

I agree with the idea of waking him to take him to the bathroom. My youngest brother wet the bed until he was about 8 years old. My mom would wake him up during the night to take him for his "dry walk." If she told him she was taking him to the bathroom, he'd just start peeing everywhere.

I would not stress out too much about the sleepwalking, but just make sure that it is not dangerous. You might need to install a bolt or chain on the doors to your house, up high enough so he cannot reach it. My other younger brother used to sleepwalk and my parents would sometimes find him standing on our patio, peeing.

Sounds pretty well within the range of normal. Except the sleepwalking.. which is not as usual. My son did the on again off again with the wetting the bed up until around 9 yrs old. He is also a very very heavy sleeper... and would often (and sometimes still does) talk in his sleep. Only walked once or twice (that I know about).

Try waking him up and taking him to the bathroom just before YOU go to bed for the night. That is what kept me sane for a few years.

Hi

Good luck and patience. My son is 7 and a heavy sleeper who wet his bed until kindergarten (age 5.5).

During times of stress (e.g., moving) he went through a phase of peeing in odd locations (empty containers... trash cans, boxes, shower/bath). As we settled into our new house, it happened less often.

I posted here on mamapedia , and others referrred to it happening to them or siblings (mostly boys)- most of whom grew out of it eventually. (I assume you can review the responses from Fall 2009?)
