Hello everyone,

thank you all for your responses, but here is a part two to my questions....My son doesn't ever take a binky here but he seems to at daycare and i figured it was a comfort thing when he misses me and his father, do you think it would be a bad thing to give that to him at night vs the bottle that he doesn't really eat???? I'm thinking if I only give it to him at night it can't hurt right??? Thanks again everyone!

Ok well i guess my problem is my son will sometimes sleep through the night and then for 2 or 3 days he will wake up at 12:30 for a bottle and then again at 4:00am. Now I know he isn't all that hungry because he only eats 2-4 ounces and he falls asleep. Actually he usually eats it with his eyes shut. I have been trying to stick to getting him to bed at the same time to help with a routine, but it doesn't seem to be helping. He goes to bed between 6:30 - 7:00. Sometimes he will go down and fall asleep on his own and sometimes he falls asleep on me. I guess I just don't know what to do to help him sleep through the night. Is all of this normal? Sorry i kind of rambled on... Any advice would be great!
thanks
A.

I have a 7 month old daughter that has yet to sleep through the night. She usually just wakes up once a night any where from 2-5. Sometimes it's because she's hungry, and other times it's just simply because she wants the comfort of nursing.

Hi A., Okay first off I would like you to know that all of this is so normal, and that you are actually one of the lucky ones. Babies change their routine almost all of the time. Especially with sleep. He could be waking for a number of reasons, and I think if someone knew exactly why then they would be famous. I would be happy if my daughter at that age was sleeping through the night. My daughter woke for a bottle as long as she had it, which was untill she was 2. I knew it was a comfort thing, and I knew if I was going to stop it I had to take the bottle away alltogether. A lot of people will rec the whole letting him cry, go in and check on him but don't take him out of his crib routine, which has worked for a lot of people. However it did not work for me. I think we as parents know our children, and I think we need to do what works for us, and our children. Im sorry I do not have a quick fix answer, But hang in their and it should pass. Happy new year!!!

Hi i have a 7 month old too... he either sleeps through the night or wakes up once at like 4 or 5 for a bottle, but drinks 8oz. He could be waking b/c he is teething or reaching new milestones like sitting, crawling, etc. Whenever babies learn something new, they have a tough time sleeping, and with teething too. Also, if hes not hungry, dont give him a bottle b/c he could just be waking b/c he thinks its routine now. Hope this helped!

I guess I would suggest that you try to keep him up a little later at night. Bed time at 6:30 sounds a little early. At 1.5 months, my son started sleeping for about 8-9 hours. That meant that I had to adjust the time that I put him down to bed so that he would wake up when I had to get up for work. Occasionally he would wake up after only about 6-7 hours of sleep, and I would have to rock him back to sleep and occasionally nurse him. We always gave my son a late afternoon nap (around 4:00), then he'd get up, eat a good supper, hang out with us, and go to bed around 9:00. As he got older, the nap got earlier b/c he was able to stay up for longer periods of time. He's 3.5 yrs. now and still has a very consistant sleeping schedule. But every child is different, so I hope this helps. Goodluck!

hi A.,
it sounds like we are in very similar situations! my daughter is almost 8 months and has been sleeping through the night since about 8 weeks, for the most part. she goes to bed around 6:30 or 7 as well, i can't keep her up later than that, not matter what i do! she just is ready for bed then. for a while she was sleeping through until about 7, but lately she's been waking up at 5 and if i give her a bottle, then sleeping until 7 or 8. however, we've had a rollercoaster ride of late, and she screams for hours on end all night long! i've heard that babies sleep patterns change around this time, but this is getting a little ridiculous! :)

good luck...let me know if you get any great advice!

Hey! My son is 13 months and he will sleep thru most nights (which in our house means he will wake up after 9 hours and then go back down for 3)Every couple of weeks he will start wakeing up at every 4 hours. Which means waking up at 12 and 4. What I have found most helpfull is to go to his room pick him up tell him I love him and that he still needs to sleep and put him back down. If I leave the room and he starts to get very upset I go back in and hold him a little longer and try to put him down again. I will do this untill its obvious the only way I am going to get him to go back to sleep is to nurse him. Normally he goes back down on the first try now, and has learned to sleep from 8 untill 4 then nurse and then sleep untill 7. I also offer him water to make sure that he isnt thirsty, and he has a cup of water in bed with him. That has helped a lot. I feel like when my son wakes up and really wont go back to sleep without milk he must need it. It normally happens when he is feeling a little sick and I figure the breastmilk is really good for him. Its our own antibiotic. So I would suggest always going to your child and starting a new pattern. The pattern now is wake up and fall asleep with a bottle. Try and change the pattern. However, babies just dont sleep how we would like them to. You are a really lucky mama if you have no sleep problems! Oh yeah and I know my son had a HUGE growth spurt at 8 months.
