hello-

my little one is 7 months old and has not been taking her bottle as normal for the last two days. she has been taking about half her usual amount. she does eat her food i make her. i know most of her nutrition comes from a bottle so i am worried. she is acting normal. her diapers are normal (but less). do i wait this out, and for how long? she does wake up hungry in the middle of the night and consumes a full bottle, but days she refuses. thanks for your in-put :)

What can I do next?

Hi R.,

I am the mother of three grown daughters and one beautiful 4 year old granddaughter.

When my girls were really no longer interested in their bottle I just gave them a sippy cup.

Also, my little Graddaughter would do this when she had trouble with her sinuses and also when she had an ear infection - she was an excellent baby! However she never cried or gave any indication of an ear infection other then not wanting her bottle! It hurt her ears to suck on it. If this keeps up you might want to call your ped and ask if you should bring her in and get her ears checked. Also be careful that she does not get dehydrated from not getting enough liquid.

Good Luck!

N.

I think it's fine. Mom's that are nursing go through this too, it's called a nursing strike. She should be back on target soon. Also realize that she knows what you're eating now and maybe the bottle isn't as appealing as it once was. When my son goes through these spurts I give him formula in his sippy cup instead of water to hopefully get a little more into him.

Good luck!

I too think it would be a good idea to take her to the Pediatrician to rule out an ear infection. It could also be that she is teething, but I'd still have the pediatrician find out. You'll feel better if you know what is going on. I've taken in my son 5 times this year due to a suspected ear infection. Four if thse times I was right, the other he was teething. He acted EXACTLY the same each time whether an ear infection or teeting.

R.-
I just had the same problem with my little one a few months ago. She ended up having an ear infection. She did not want to suck on the bottle because of the pressure it pulled from her ears. My girls were never fussy with ear infections though, so even though she isn't fussy she still might be having that problem with the pressure from sucking on the bottle. I would have her checked out just to rule it our. My Dr said they can do that but if you are concerned bring her in. I brought her in and sure enough she had an infection. You know your daughter best, so if you are concerned have her checked out. Good luck!
