7 Month Olds Sleeping Habits

My seventh month old boy is sleeping very well. I have used a sleep bumper to stop him from rolling over since he was born. I also would swaddle him with one blanket. But now that he is older, he wakes up a few times at night and in the morning he has managed to work his way out of the sleep bumper and roll himself over.

My question. Do you mom's cover your 7 month and older children with a blanket at night?? I worry he gets cold. I think I will remove the bumper so he can turn himself over, but I am concerned about the blanket. What do you all do??

So What Happened?

Thank you to all the wonderful moms out there who are passing on their great advice and their reassurances that I'm not crazy for my concerns! I just put my boy down with much of your advice: NO bumper! footed pajamas, no blanket and a half-way closed vent. Whew!! I feel better -- Thank you all for your help!

I remember that--my daughters are 6 and 4, but when they were little I always worried that they were cold, but didn't want them to suffocate so was afraid to put the blanket on them. What I did was use the thick "footie" pajamas. I sometimes used a light blanket too, but those jammies are really warm.

Halo sleeper is one of the sleeper products out there. You can buy cotton for summer and fleece for the winter. It's sleeveless. It's just like your baby is wearing a blanket.

M.,
Wow, he must have been a deep sleeper to last that long in the wedge...my children were only able to use it for a month and it scared me to death not to use it so young. My 3 month old immediately flips onto her tummy when we lay her down, but I was told if they can do this on their own...that they are fine. As far as blankets, I did with my son, but since my daughter has been born, we opted to just put her in a really warm sleeper, and now I don't worry about her covering her face up. They never stay covered up anyway and I figure when she is about a year, she'll be fine with a blanket. Hope this helps, A.

My daughter is 2 and hates to be covered up at night and has hated being covered up since she was a baby. My solution was to dress her in long pants or blanket sleepers all year long, in the winter time I do layers. That way I know her body is covered even if the blankets aren't on her. I also told myself, if she is cold or uncomfortable, she would wake up and let us know about it. Hope this helps...

Since he's able to roll himself and lift his up, he will be fine without the bumper

I put a small crib sized blanket over my son when he was that age.

If your not comfortable and worried about him getting cold you can slightly close the vent in his room to keep it from getting too warm

M.: As for the sleep bumper, he doesn't need it. As long as he can roll over then he will be fine. My son started rolling onto his stomach at 3 months and I was panicing. My doctor told me that if he can roll by himself then he can get himself in a safe position. As for the blankets, I didn't use anything in his crib until he was well over 1. We even lived in Minnesota at the time! I just put him in a onesie, socks and heavy feeted pj's for the winter and normal pj's during the warmer times. I worried about him getting tangled up in the blankets. I didn't put anything in the crib at all!! Hopefully this helps.
