Hi All,

Last week my son said he had a headache when he was at school. I asked him if he still had it and he said no. He never said he had aheadache before. He said he felt it in his temple and it travelled to his arm but dissappeared when he went to lunch. Then Friday he had what the school called a crazy hair day and the school called me telling me my son said he had a headache. I spoke to him on the phone and asked him if the "vapors" from the purple hair color I sprayed in his hair for that day was bothering him, he said maybe. He didn't want me to pick him up. On Sunday he was at Sunday school I had just dropped him off 15 minutes earlier and they called me that he was complaining of a headache. This time he said the headache was at the back of his head. I asked him if he hit his head , he said no. He came home laid down for 15 minutes asked if he could play video games and I said no because I wanted him to rest his eyes as well as his body and he said he felt really good all of a sudden and felt he was well enough to play. Here is my question(s). Is he faking it? Do 7 year olds get headaches? He made it a point to tell his guidance counseler about his headaches, she in turn called me just to make me aware. He is goiong for a check up this week at the dr's so I will ask but just wondering if any of you mommas had this experience with your kids.

What can I do next?

My youngest son gets headaches from time to time. Lately he's been getting them more frequently. I know he isn't faking them because he will come in from playing outside and lay down. He LOVES playing outside. I can also see it in and around his eyes when he hurts. It worries me because I've had horrible migraines since I was a young girl, and now have to take daily preventive medication for migraines (and I stil get them frequently anyway). I'm hoping he doesn't follow in my footsteps. You know your son best. Some children do fake illnesses, but many times they are really sick or in pain. You will be the best judge of that.

Hard to know - my 5 year old has recently started saying she has a headache but isn't consistent with her descriptions. It seems she agrees with anything I say. I think letting your doctor talk to him at his check-up is a great idea!

anyone can get headaches. There really is no way to know if he is faking or not... which is the bad thing for parents about headaches. But it is possible. It could be his eyes that are giving him headaches but more likely it is from his spine. You should take him to see a good chiropractor. One that does a full examination and takes xrays if needed. They will then be able to tell you if his headaches are coming from his spine being misaligned. Everyone gets a misalignment of the spine (subluxation is the chiropractic term for it) that causes pressure on the nerve system which can cause headaches and other more serious problems as well. By the way.... MDs look for different things in spinal xrays then chiropractors do.
Hope this helps:)

My daughter used to get headaches around this age and a little older. She'd also get stomach aches sometimes. These were all non-descript symptoms, pretty vague. I think they were caused by stress. (Mean girls on the playground.) She also experienced a few months of very frequent urination or just the urge to go when she had just already gone. (The pediatric urologist said this was extremely common and not a worry.) For the headaches and the stomach aches, I would just have her lie down to relax and give her a cup of chamomile & mint tea with some honey and a splash of milk. Chamomile is very soothing and mint is good for stomach problems. Even if the herbs didn't do anything to help her, I felt better knowing that I was doing something to help her. Plus, the tea could have had a placebo effect. Sometimes I also drew a warm bubble bath for her to relax in. Good luck.

my 7 year old had headaches for about a month ...took him to the dr and it ended up being a sinus infection!
