8 1/2 Month Vomiting

Several times in the last 2 weeks my 8 1/2 month old has eaten lunch around 2...been fine...nurses at 4 and then naps for about an hour and upon waking or within a few minutes throws up. Not spit up..full on vomiting. She has no fever but is teething with possibly 4 coming in at one time....definitely the bottom 2 but I can't get a good look at the top but it feels like it. It is not every day and initially I thought maybe I was over feeding her but then I thought the vomiting would be shortly after her eating rather than a couple hours later. I have cut back some just to make sure. There is nothing that she has eaten that was new any of the days she has vomited so probably not a reaction to a new food. My only thought is all the extra saliva from the teething but does anyone else have any thoughts? She seems to be fine once she is done throwing up and is back to her normal happy self. I have talked to her Doctor and they just want to make sure she is hydrated etc. Has anyone else had this problem?

My child has not had that specific problem. But, my 4mo old just got over stomach flu. He had it REALLY bad and was vomiting 4-5 times a day, and every diaper was SUPER watery poop. He had stomach flu for 1.5 weeks, got better for 4 days, and then it came back for another week. We went to ER 4 times during this time period becaseu he was unable to hold any food down PLUS he was having diaherria. He also started to show some VERY EARLY signs of dehydration.

SO....I Doubt your daughter has stomach flu...but it COULD be coming on. So....i would just watch her. She is probably totally fine, but I would buy some pedialyte and after she vomits, give her half pedialyte and half breast milk at her next feeding. Pedialyte will replace any electrolytes that she may have lost. Vomiting once a day is not going to cause a serious loss in electrolytes, but giving her pedialyte will reassure you that any electrolytes that may have been lost will be replaced.

So...just watch her. I doubt it is stomach flu...but supplementing with pedialyte may ease some of your concerns about dehydration. Just an Fyi....my son NEVER had a fever and was SUPER HAPPY when he had stomach flu. So.....in my oppinion fever/temperment is not always a good indicator as far as health goes.

Any other symptoms? Only puking after waking? falling over? eyes crossing? Does she seem sick earlier in the day? or after she pukes? I'd take her to the Dr. My son had similar symptoms, and he was mighty sick. I am not going to alarm you. But, get her checked out to make sure she's okay.

Dear K.,
Call the doctor and let him/her know if she continues. I know that you think it might not be reaction to food, but when I was a baby my mother says I would throw up everything. I turned out to have a digestive disorder. Just watch it and if it does not stop, make sure you take her in for further examinations. Also you can tell if they are getting dehydrated...if you pick up the skin an the back side of the and and it sticks together rather than just zips back into place, she is dehydrated.

It could be the teething. I didn't experience that with my daughter but have heard they can become nauseated at times
