My 8 month old will only take a size 1 Dr. Brown nipple for feeding. We have started on baby food and he gets baby food for lunch and dinner, but anytime he wants a bottle, he will only take level 1. I have tried 2's and he refuses them and we constantly fight. Now trying to introduce a sippy cup has been pure he** bc hes use to the size 1 flow. Any suggestions?

Im a new mom and I wasnt too sure if letting him continue with the size 1 would be a bad thing as far as development and converting over to a sippy cup on down the road. I love the idea of the sippy cups with the straw. i put a regular sippy cup beside him and he puts it in his mouth and chews on the tip and you can tell that he doesnt know what to do with it or whats in the cup.

If he is growing just fine, you can simply let him stay with the size 1. It will take him longer to eat, but he won't fight.
Or quit the size 1 cold turkey. He will be upset for a while but he will get over it.
Or you can try slightly increasing the size of the 1's with a needle until they are the same as size 2's. But you have to be careful and examine the nipples as increasing the size may cause a tear in the nipple.
I never switched the nipple size on the bottles. I figured that was mostly a marketing scam. If the baby is happy with a particular size, why switch?
For the sippy, first, put in something the baby loves (ie warm breastmilk or formula). Then, either use a sippy cup without a valve or just leave the valve out. What you want is for the liquid to drip out of the cup, so as soon as it gets close to his mouth he can taste what is in there. Neither of my kids understood the concept that they needed to actually suck on the sippy cup at first. But once I let it drip out onto their lips, they got the idea and picked it up quickly. Although - 8 months is still young for that. I didn't move to sippy cups until much closer to 1 year old - 10 or 11 months.
There's no where that says he has to goto a larger size. I don't think it's worth a battle over...just wait a month and try again.
With my own kids and my daycare kids, I usually push more once they go to regular milk (at about 12 months). But let them 'practice since about 6 months if they're up for it...if not I just give them the bottle. Haven't had any toddlers still crying for bottles.
Also, have you tried a sippy with a straw? May be a little young for sucking thru a straw yet...but since he seems to like to control his intake, he might like it better. I like the straw ones better for lots of other reasons too (can hold it while sitting up, and better for oral devolopment). But use what works!

I do not see what the problem is. Let him be. As long as he is happy do not change a thing. Plenty of time for sippy cups. Why the rush. He enjoys his bottle. He is a baby.
If it ain't broken don't fix it.
Your baby is happy, let it go. He may use a sippy, he may not. I know my 2 yr old grandson is very picky about his sippy cups. He only likes certain kinds.
I never switched nipple size with DD. She was breastfed and got pumped milk at daycare....with a slow flow (size 1) nipple all the way.
She also never liked the "spill proof" sippies, her daycare used the ones that basically had the lid like a paper coffee cup and they transitioned to open Dixie cups at 18 months...

He's still young. There is nothing wrong with using a size 1 nipple. That slows the flow of milk. Continue giving him the sippy cup and he'll eventually adjust. There is no rush to use it.
This is definitely no an issue to fight over. Let him advance at his own pace. You don't want to set up a pattern of resistance and power struggles over food.
