Little bit of history. My oldest daughter is soon to be 8 years old. She has intractable epilepsy, anxiety, apashia, dyslexia and memory issues. And some other things yet to be diagnosed.

Anyhow My daughter the past several months has been having to go pee constantly. We go to Walmart and she has to go potty when we get there at least once or twice while there and then when we leave. We sit down and eat a meal and she has to go potty before sometimes during and immediately after. It seems all day she is in the bathroom non stop. I have followed her in the bathroom to make sure she isnt bleeding or dark pee etc and its not. She does have a history of UTI's but she has been checked every other week and no UTI. She did have overactive bladder (she would pee a lot lot lots) due to a medication three years ago but it had gone away. Shes been on the current meds for over a year. And she isn't constipated so thats not the issue. She does NOT drink a lot. We constintly are having to do iv's cause shes dehydrated. Lots of times shes not peeing much at all. She goes to the urologist December 15. And we have done the cranberry juice and it has no effect.

Any one been in same shoes with their kids??

Do you notice on days of the iv's it is worse? That often causes constant urination.

Diabetes, Pollakiuria, vulvovaginitis (usually with burning), over active bladder, are a few causes of frequent urination. It would be helpful to know if she as maybe having pain or itching as well. Talk to your Dr when you go in and see if you can find out if there are any other related symptoms.

Pollakiuria:
Also called frequent daytime urination syndrome, this is a common, although not very well known cause of frequent urination in young children. Most common between the ages of 4 and 6 years, these children begin urinating small amounts of urine about 10 to 30 times each day. They may also wake up at night to urinate, although not as often, and they should have no other symptoms and a normal urinalysis. Although sometimes related to stress, no specific trigger is found for many children with pollakiuria and it often goes away in a few weeks or months without any treatment.

I would ask the urologist about interstitial cystitis. If necessary, ask the urologist for a referral to another urologist who diagnoses & treats this. I've been very happy on 2 medications, Sanctura and Elmiron, in combination with some initial physical therapy (training for the muscles). I was peeing every 20 minutes and now can go for several hours. They did a hydro-distension under anasthesia to diagnose it. Good luck!

This is such a long shot, but I thought I'd mention it. When my son was younger he was going to the bathroom constantly, and we worried about diabetes (which is in our family). It never was diabetes; however, when we took gluten out of his diet it stopped (fairly quickly afterward).

I wondered if the gluten (and possibly dairy) was causing some sort of inflammation that made him feel as if he had to go. Our mainstream docs were never very much help with this issue (other than to rule out diabetes) - it was something that we had to figure out on our own.

Good luck to you guys - hope this gets better for her.

My son occasionally has this problem, and his doctor just says it is spastic bladder. I have noticed the problem arises after he has had caffeine, and can last for several weeks. So we just try to stay away from caffeine because even just a little bit of tea or soda gets him going....
