It really depends on the area. Check out this website http://www.dfps.state.tx.us/Child_Care/Search_Texas_Child...
You can search home care or a center. Make sure there isn't anything going on "behind the scences."

I'm new to this area and looking for childcare. I stumbled across a in-home preschool that charges a flat rate of $85.00. She only cares for children ages 2-4 years (which is great!) My concern is that where I used to live the going rate for this age group was well over $100.00. Is this too good to be true? I've been to her place and everything looks and sounds great. Small group, lots of experience, and a degree. Should I just consider myself lucky for (possibly) finding a great place for my child and continue my pursuit. Or am I just making a big deal out of it?

That sounds awfully low to me. I would be certain that she is licensed and I would look at the results of her in home inspections. Look for things like fire extinguishers, plenty of seating for children at the table, clean toys, safety concerns, etc. but more importantly I would ask for a background check on the provider and any other people residing in the household. The provider should show you a diaper changing station and should be wearing gloves when she changes diapers. I would also ask what the policy is when she is ill or her children are ill. I would ask what her policy is for sick children - when does a parent have to pick up their child. I would just be very cautious - I know that there are some WONDERFUL people providing in-home daycare, but there are also others who are not. Be careful.
It depends on the area. Here in Joshua the going rate for a 2 yr old is @75.00 a week. If you think the place is great that go for it. There are alot of providers that pick the age group they want to work with and than set the price that is needed. Good Luck and keep us posted. :)
Hi C.,
If you are talking about All Star Preschool, I take my 2 1/2 there & he loves it. I have called several times to check on him & she & her husband are both very accomodating to any requests or concerns I might have had & my son loves it there. I live in Arlington but grew up a few miles from where the daycare is & know the neighborhood, my best friends aunt, who is a nurse still lives about 4 houses down from there, so I feel totally safe with my child being there. I would definately talk to her about doing a drop in so that you can let your child go once before you decide & see how that goes. I really like that family & am very grateful that I found them. Good Luck, I know how hard it can be sometimes. One of the questions I did ask her was about why she charged so little & she told me that she loves kids so much & knows how hard it is to afford childcare these days & she doesn't want to take half of a parent's paycheck cause they have to live also. I hope this helps.
