doc and check on this.

Hello, My little granddaughter was just diagnosed with pneumonia last Friday. She is also teething. She is three years old, but has delayed teething due to Down Syndrome. She will not allow us to put anything on her gums, so we use the teething tablets. They are natural and help relieve the pain the child is having. She was also using Tylenol for her fever. I bought her's at Rite Aid. We just didn't give her the tablets at the same time as the Tylenol. We would wait about an hour.

Your giving pain killers too frequently, 3 hours in between is too soon. You can damage their liver or kidneys...I can't remember which one...could be both.

I'm guessing you are switching back and forth ibuprofen and tylenol..I would go every 4 hours-every 3 is a bit much.

There is so much crud going around it most likely is a cold tho. What I've learned is if you can keep the fever down, he's at least drinking/staying hydrated and you can keep him comfortable he should be ok.

Use a warm mist vaporizer in his room, rub some baby vaborub on his chest, saline mist stuff for his nose, (we put it on a q-tip and rub it around in there), and wait a few more days. Generally a dr will tell you a cold will take a min of 7-10 days to run it's course.

If he's not better or gets worse definately call the ped.

There is no problem giving baby oragel with motrin and tylenol, but I would recommend the new oragel, I think it's called Naturals, that has no benzocaine, because, especially if you are planning on using it frequently, there have been reports in adults and kids, some dose dependent (overuse), some with just 1-2 doses, of developing a weird effect to the benzocaine and getting something methhemoglobinemia, which can be fatal. Or just use any other kind of benzocaine free teething medication. As for the tylenol and motrin, (as mentioned before by some of the moms), the maximum amount of doses that can be given is tylenol every 4 hours,(6 doses/day) and motrin every 6 hours (4 doses/day). If you are alternating them, then twice a day your alternating doses would coincide to be given at the same time, so then, based on how high the fever is, you decide which of the 2 to give, and keep on going from there. Also, not sure when your pediatrician saw the baby, but any kid with more than 5 days of persistent fevers need to be rechecked and if nothing like an ear infection is found, get some work up, especially if they are under a year old, like a chest xray, if there are respiratory symptoms, and a CBC (blood test). How high is the fever anyway? Good luck!

I am assuming that your child has been introduced to some solids. I would try freezing some baby food or breast milk in ice cube trays and let him suck on that to help with the pain from the teething. Orajel is fine too.
I agree with other moms about being careful with too frequent doses of tylenol and ibuprofen.
To help with the fever, you might also try doing luke warm baths. No cold because you don't want him to shiver.
If you don't see improvement in a day or so, take him back to his pediatrician. Sometimes virus infections combined with teething will cause bacterial ear infections because things are so inflamed the eustacian tubes won't drain properly. This would mean he needs antibiotics too.
