9 Month Old Girl in Need of a Haircut! Elk River or Coon Rapids Area...

I have a wonderful 9 month old little girl, and her hair is always in her eyes! I was going to hold out on a cut for a while, then the holidays hit, and practically everyone who saw her asked when I was going to cut her hair! It does look a little silly, when it's combed over to the side, that's what it looks like, an old mans comb over! I need to find a kid-friendly (well really baby-friendly) place to take her, and I've don't have a clue where to go! We live in Burns Township, so someplace in Elk River, Anoka, or Coon Rapids would be good. I don't want to have to drive her a long way just for a hair cut! Thank you in advance for help!

What can I do next?

Fay at the Kidskuts on Northdale blvd in Coon Rapids is FANTASTIC! The setup is great because they have animals (like at the park in the sandbox) so the kids straddle that and they have a movie going to distract them. I would suggest requesting Fay specifically (they do make appointments) though because I sent my husband there for my son's last haircut and Fay was busy so he got someone else and the cut was not so good.

Some maybe not think it's baby friendly, but I disagree.

I bring my daughter to Belle Capelle's in Andover. They are sooo pleasent to her and treat us like queens when we go there. They are a little pricy, but I can tell a difference between Belle Capelle's hair cuts and say...great clips (which we've tried). I also went there for her first haircut and they gave us a certificate signed by the beautician and a lock of curls with a little bow in an envelope for her baby book. Plus, they give you stuff to drink while you wait and while you get your haircut so it's a little treat for my daughter and she looks forward to her haircuts. Whenever I bring up a haircut, she jumps up and down in excitement. Very nice.

I've been to the Jungle in Elk River and it was fine, but they can't keep hairstylists there, my family and i finally left. We now go to Cowlicks to Curls in Rogers. The owner is Tanya and she's fabulous! It is a kid friendly, lady loving, safe environment with Playstations, movies, etc. for kids to do. And her prices are amazing. Check it out!

My son is a special needs child with sensory issues and getting a haircut before was like pulling teeth - so dreaded the whole thing. We go to Fantastic Sams off Hwy 10 in Ramsey and we have Lindsey cut all of our hairs. She has done my twin daughters and she has a younger child and relates to the kids. I think that she is awesome, and she always makes my little guy so handsome.

I would recommend Kids Kuts - there is one in Coon Rapids just west of Hanson on Northdale Blvd.

Here is their website (note you can also get coupons for 15% off).

We took our daughter their for her first cut and they were so nice and out some of here hair in a baggy for me(they also were very accommodating for pictures to be taken).

Good luck!

I also recommend the Jungle Family Hair Salon in Elk River. Not only are they great, they are very inexpensive. They also have movies for the kids to watch to keep them entertained during the cutting!

Another option if you don't want her to have bangs is to purchase some rubber bands from Wallgreens, Target or other places like that. I didn't want my daughter to have bangs because then I feel you just end up cutting thier hair every 2 months so I just put the front of her hair up in a pony on top or over to the side. Now it's starting to grow more to the side and I only have to go get her hair cut every 4-6 months because she doesn't have bangs (she's 22 months now). If you go the route of the rubber bands, get ones that are not supposed to cling to the hair as you don't want her hair to break off.

We also go to Kids Kuts in Coon Rapids (NW corner of Northdale and Crooked Lake Blvd.). They do an excellent job. I've tried Great Clips and Fantastic Sams and they both screwed up my son's cowlick (sp?) so I stick with Kids Kuts. http://www.kidskutsmn.com/ When you click on the services link there are coupons to print out, too.

The Jungle in Elk River is FABULOUS!! I can't recommend them enough. It's a kids place and they have trained stylists who know what they are doing!! My dd has natural curls and she's had awful cuts from other places, but They cut it awesome!! And they were fabulous w/my 2 yr dd when I took her for her first trim. It's right on HWY 10. If you're heading towards big lake, it's on the right hand side of the road in downtown ER.
