9 Month Old Has a Diaper Rash

If it is diaper rash, then I know a great remedy from a friend who works at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Using a hand mixer or blender, combine equal parts Aquaphor and either Maalox or Mylanta. (You have to use name brand Maalox or Mylanta; the generic won't work this time.) It will be a little bit runny, and it may not fully combine, but that is okay. Apply this to the effected area, and, if it is diaper rash, it will be cleared up within a day or two. My son was a thumbsucker, and this was also a great ointment to relieve the red chapping he would get from the drool sitting on his face while he sucked his thumb. Hope this helps!

Please don't use Lotrimin or Cortisone or Benadryl on a vagina. They aren't meant to be used on mucosal tissues.

If you see bumps/pustules then it is probably fungal/yeast and you can use Monistat or a generic which is formulated for a vagina and is safe on a little boy as well.

Let her air, apply the miconazole (generic name), let it soak in a little, then apply your moisture barrier cream such as A&D, Desitin, or Aquaphor. If it doesn't go away in a week, call the doctor. Using Monistat won't hurt anything though if you just want to try it.

Cortisone creams will inflame fungal infections, aside from what I stated above about mucus membranes.

no cortisone or anything else, let her have plain water baths, use vaseline at night, and make sure she's really dry before you diaper her. Its a part of teething. Diapers today arent plasticised, so I wouldnt worry about letting her "air it out" if shes scratching, let her wear a clean diaper after her bath for a bit, and do the vaseline b4 bed. it will pass.

Two different plans of attack. They were ideas given to me from an old physician and they worked for my family.
1) If it is fungal, use Lotrimin cream (like for athlete's foot) that you can buy over the counter in a grocery store, or drug store. It works miracles.
2) Whip raw egg whites until they are frothy and apply to the area. Put a diaper on to keep her touching the raw egg and then her mouth. This usually cures either overnight or within 24 hours.

You can google it and it will show you pictures. But a fungal infection will look different than a regular diaper rash which is usually just a little pink. My daughter had a yeast infection and it looked like little pink bumps and I would use diaper rash cream...it would go away and then come back. I then took her to the doctor and they prescribed her a special creme.

Being a little girl, first rash, and on the front -- I'd definately see the Dr. and ask about using monistat or something similar. All of the little girls in my family have struggled with yeast infections since infancy.

I agree that you should give a call to your child's pediatrician and talk to the nurse. You might could use Cortaid or something, maybe even Benadryl - I tend to think it could be an allergic reaction - any new foods lately? The fact that she is clawing herself all over makes me think this. When I get dry skin in winter I feel itchy all over and use Cortaid or a good intensive moisturizer. It was just the fact that she seems irritable in more than one location that made me answer this way.

Yes, you can use 1% hydrocortizone, just don't get too much on it -- a pea-size and evenly smeared each time over the next 3 days or so should do it. I also used wet Viva paper towels versus wipes, and/or just washed with water and pat-dry with towel, then applied 1% hydrocortizone when really bad. My friend's daughter had never heard of doing this and worked for her too.

My niece has suffered from rashes all her life and it didn't matter if my brother and sister n law left her naked, she would still be completely bumpy and raw. Sometimes she would even break out and bleed. They took her to 4 different doctors and all said it was indeed diaper rash, just really intense. My grandmother took her for a weekend and after she made some tea she let the bags cool and placed them on my nieces rash... I know this sounds crazy and old fashioned but it did work. They could not use Desitin or Balmex on her. The only thing that they could use other than the tea bags was AD&D. My twins had a rough case of diarrhea when they were babies and they could not even wear a diaper at all because we were changing them so often that financially we had to swap to cloth diapers. Maybe you could try that also. My prayers are with you.

I saw that you had posted about your lo cutting teeth, it coincideds with the diaper rash. my lo gets the rash when cutting teeth also. we use the teething tabs to help take the edge off also orajel works. You can also give her tylenol and motrin not at the same time of course stager one dose every 4 hrs. as for the rash if the but paste is not working switch to a&d ointment. if it gets dried out it can get more irretated. Clothe diapers help too. be sure to change her as soon as she #1 or #2. gl it will pass soon.

I Woiuld hesitate to use cortisone cream without checking with your doctor..or at the very least...Ask-a-nurse. Letting her go without the diaper is the best idea...but if she is itching it...that is an issue too. How about some corn starch to see if that would help more than the butt paste? Let it breathe a little.
The itchiness makes me suspect a fungal infection...I would be tempted to take her in to be seen.

I highly recommend taking her to the doctor and telling him all of her symptoms.
