I need help! I am a first time mom and my daughter went for her 9 month check up yesterday. Her Doc told me that I should not give her Juice because it has a lot of empty calories. Is that true??

Also, what were you feeding your babies at nine months??

What can I do next?

very very very true. the calories & sugars in fruit are good for you if you eat it in the fruit form because the body uses those to break down the fruit fiber. When fruit has been juiced it is mostly sugar without the fiber benefit.
So give them some water and an apple instead of apple juice. it's better for the teeth too.

We just started with the juice for our now 10 month old but we diluted it with water. We still dilute our soon to be 4 year old's juice. We also only buy 100% juice products.

Your baby really won't know the difference to what you are giving her. My littlest one will drink water with the same gusto as juice. I think she just enjoys the novelty the whole sippy cup.

I agree with your doc and everyone here. In my opinion, juice really shouldn't be given to 9 month olds unless it is diluted with water (2 oz juice & 2 oz water). Even at 2 years, my godson (RIP Jahlil) had a few of his teeth "rotten" so to speak due to juice. My kids (2 & 4 years) only drink light colored drinks, for example white grape juice and sometime apple 100% juice.

When my children were 9 months they ate stage 2 and/or 3 baby foods or very bland mashed potatoes. Good luck.

I think we did only formula and water until my son turned 1 year old. We did do juice mixed half and half with water after that. It is true, juice has sugars and they just sit on your child's teeth... unless you brush them. My kids started juice at 12 months and are now 5 and 3. Both have been to the dentist and their teeth are fine. Just don't let them have too much juice each day. L. :-)

Hi! It's been a while for me, my twin girls are 8, but I also remember being told not to give the girls too much juice. My doctor said that if I did give them juice, to make sure to water it down, which I did for the first couple of years. Good luck!

Giving juice is ok but in controlled amounts. At 9 months we were just trying to get my son used to a sippy cup so he never drank much juice. He is 14 months now and we still only give him 4-6oz of juicy juice diluted with water a day. Your baby still needs to be drinking the formula, I think atleast 20-24oz. Whatever you decide don't put juice into a bottle to give to your daughter. My son was mainly eating baby food #2 & #3 jars at 9 months, applesauce, anything pureed. I tried to give him gerber puffs but he choked on them for some time. Each baby is differernt and you have to kind of experiment to see what gets spit out. Make sure to stay away from honey, nuts, and anything that deals with allergies. Hope that helps. This is my first child too and you just take one day at a time.
