I am writing in this question for a good friend of mine! She has 9 week old twins, who only eat about 2 ounces at a time. They just won't eat any more. She pumps and also supplements with formula. They have tried everything! Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I have twin girls that are now 16 months old. As long as they're both eating and gaining weight then they should be okay. Sometimes if you switch too much between breast milk and formula it's hard on their bodies and they won't eat much. Has she tried Carnation's Good Start Formula? That worked really well with my girls and it was very easy on their little tummy's. And how often do they eat 2 oz? If it's every hour or two then that's okay. As long as her doctor doesn't see anything wrong wtih it then they should be okay. If your friend has any questions she can feel free to ask. I hope that this helps a little bit.

that's two month old babies. that's enough feeding. it's better to feed frequently than try to put in more
i did try to feed them more only because somebody forgot to tell me you're not supposed to increase half an oz of formula every day to their feedings. si that's what i kept doing. add half an ounce more every day. my babies weren't holding it down. finally take them to the doctor and said they keep vomiting a lot after feeding. he asked me how much i was giving them? somehow, someway i explained i was adding half an oz more each day. he about had a heart attack :)
so, yes that's enough.
good luck

I think two ounces per feeding is really plenty. They have such tiny stomachs at that age. As long as they are gaining weight, they are fine.

My boy was exclusively breastfed, so I don't *know* how much he was eating at a meal at that age. But when I saw a lactation consultant at 3 weeks, the pre and post feeding weights showed a two ounce feed. The LC said that was a normal amount, and would be for quite a while.

These twins are eating plenty per feeding and as long as they are eating at least 8 times a day and gaining weight, Mom should not worry. Infants up to about 4 mo of age can only hold about 2-3ounces at a time. As a nutritionist I always tell concerned moms who are formula feeding that is better to feed more often, then add more to the bottle because they just end up spitting up that extra formula. Sounds like mom is doing a great job.
