Hello Awesome Mommies!. I will find out on Monday if I will have to have a C-section because of a low laying placenta. My doc had said that IF I do have to have one they will schedule me for the week before my due date, which is Sept 1. So the week of the 27th. I was just wondering if anyone knows if I ask for the Friday before the 27th do you think they would do it? Its only 2 days. I'll be asking the doc on Monday but Im thinking about alot and just thought I would see what you all think? There is no real reason I want it on thatq date except for it would work out perfectly for planning out of town family coming and my son starting Kindergarten and my husbands work. Thanks :)

What can I do next?

it is certainly possible! My daughter was due at Christmastime. Since we knew I'd be having a C-section the dr. said, "as long as all is ok you can decide - do you want the delivery to be a few days before Christmas or after." Again - that was as long as the pregancy was going well - otherwise he'd have gotten a little more strict with what date we would go in. My daughter ended up being born December 19th.

So, just ask - worst the doctor can say is no right? Best of luck!

I just had my c-section scheduled for Monday the 13th. My due date is the 17th. I orginally wanted to have surgery on the 10th but doc schedule was full. I asked if we would schedule it for Thursday the 9th and they said no way because that is before my 39 wks. Insurance will only cover c-section before 39 wks if its a medical emergency. Good luck.

Some hospitals and/or insurance companies are very literal about the 39th week. Kind of like if you have your annual exam on May 3rd, they won't pay for you to have it on May 2nd the following year. But it can't hurt to ask!

One thing that came to mind is that at the hospital I had my kids at, the lactation consultants worked Monday through Friday. The first time around, I really depended on them. With my second, they stopped in, but things were running very smoothly. That doesn't always happen, so it's just something to consider.

I think your doctor will probably do it, but yes it does depend on when they are doing surgery, etc. If your doctor is part of a larger practice he/she may have certain days that they will work. Good luck! And, don't worry, C-sections are a lot easier to recover from than you think they are...especially planned ones!!

I think it depends on your doctor and how strongly they feel about 38-39 weeks.
I know in my own OBs practice, I had one doctor that was all for it whenever I was ready - past the 38 week mark, and my regular doctor wouldn't do it.
Couldn't hurt to ask.

Most insurance companies are very picky about c sections and will not cover before 39 weeks. I know mine declined my drs original date for mine at 38 weeks and 4 days. So I ended up with mine at 39 weeks and 5 days.

My doc wouldn't do it before the 39th week but some may do things differently. About an amino for lung development, they don't do that for term pregnancy.

They'll give you an amnio first, anyway, to check lung development. I would think (but don't quote me) that a doctor might be willing to do that.

I just scheduled mine for the week before my due date (which is Sept 17th). and my doctor asked me what date I wanted and checked her schedule to see if she was available and then called to get me on the schedule. I would shoot with whatever date works best for you - and see what the doctor can do.

It is possible but it will most likely depend on when your doctor is on-call. I've had two c-sections and will have my third in December. I always have to schedule them when my doctor is on call (which usually ends up being a Friday, so he can care for me all weekend).

When I had mine (2 c-sections) they also did it a week before my due date, I was given a little bit of leeway(sp?) as to the date but could not chose a date more than a week early. Perhaps your doctor has different thoughts on it, though. Seems like two days wouldn't make much of a difference, but you never know. I do understand your desire to make it "convenient" - heck, if you're scheduling the birth of your baby you may as well be able to make it a date that works best for you - LOL!
