My daughter has very limited funds and needs a car seat for her 7 mth old baby. She has totally outgrown the infant carrier. I know that there is an organization that gives car seats away. Does anyone know who they are an dhow to contact them? Or is anyone interested in trading an infant seat for the next step up?

What can I do next?

i'm not trying to sound all knowing or anything :) but you're really not suppose to put any baby under a year in anything but a infant carrier. the main reason being their necks aren't strong enough yet to hold their heads should the car be hit. here's the website if you want more info.

I am not sure what that organization is, but have you tried looking at Kid to Kid it is a resale shop. You could also try craigslist. As far as leaving her in an infant carrier that has to be wrong. If they are over the height limit and weight limit then you have to move to a car seat just make sure she is rear facing.

I am sure you as a mother of 3, grandmother of 2, are aware, but others on this site may not be..you absolutely can have an infant out of an infant carrier. They do have to be rear facing, in an appropriate weight limit carseat, but those are very common, often called convertible seats. Always, check the weight limits, upper and lower. For ex., mine goes from 5lb to 40 lb, and can be used rear facing and forward facing. I saw the previous comment, and just wanted to clarify for others who may read and misunderstand. Your 7 mo. old is likely just like my kids..over the 20 lb weight limit of most infant carriers. It is far more unsafe to leave them in a car seat that they are over the weight limit for than to move them up to a rear facing car seat. Just a little bit of information to help provide some clarity for those who may not fully understand. Best of luck in your search, I wish I had something to offer, but all of my little ones are still in their carseats:) ~A.~
