We live in Austin,TX - we have a 3 day weekend coming up the end of July and I am trying to come up with a place to go to that my 18 month old daugher will enjoy! I am thinking somewhere no further than a 4 hours drive away, we could stay 1-2 nights and a place that has at least 2 fun things for us to do during the day.
I would love advice on a palce to go, where to stay and or family friendly activities to do.
I should tell you I have ruled out San Antonio because I have been there 10+ times already!!! And we plan on going again next month to Sea World but just for the day not as a weekend getaway! Thanks for your responses so far!!

I would not recommend Houston(where i live) for a vacay, but for eating and shopping as a pitstop i would. I like galveston, it gets a bad rap. You can get a hotel on the seawall, drink margaritas at an underwater bar, jetski, go to shlitterbahn, rent a horse carriage, shop on the strand. The whole city is rich in history.
I second Galveston. There's so much to do that is kiddo friendly--Moody Gardens, Schlitterbahn, Galveston Railroad Museum, Ridley Turtle Research Center (you have to reserve a tour in advance online), beach, shopping The Strand, and tour the Elissa Tall Ship.
does she like animals? if so, the Fort Worth zoo is reason enough to come up here.
Come to the Metroplex. DFW has anything you could possible want. You could stay at Great Wolfe Lodge. Go to a Ranger Game. Tour Cowboy Stadium. 6Flags. Hurricane Harbor. Hawaiian Falls. LegoLand. Listen to me. I sound like I work for the Chamber of Commerce!

I also really love Fredericksburg but dont think its as kid friendly.
San Antonio. River walk, fiesta texas, seaworld, alamo. Schlitterban is not too far north of SA.
I second Iris's idea of the Great Wolf Lodge. I haven't been there personally, but family members have and they couldn't say enough good things about it. It kept kids and parents entertained, plus you have the other things in the area.

Schiliterbahn Water Park in New Braunfels is great outdoors fun, and you can stay nearby in the small town of Greune, TX. We also enjoy Grapevine, TX, where Legoland is and stay at the Great Wolf Lodge hotel (it is the best kid-friendly hotel w/an indoor waterpark, storytime every night, and MagiQuest, (an interactive game that uses a computerized wand) for the older kids). For a relaxing meal, you can head across the street to the grand and beautiful Gaylord Texan hotel where they even have their own version of an indoor river walk. They recently opened their lazy river pool and were running a special on their rooms. Downtown Grapevine is very quaint and you are less than 20 mins from Dallas metro where great food is!
Hmmmm I also live in Austin and have a 16 month old. I would have to say, San Auntonio! There are many hotel, bed and breakfast options. As well, they have Six Flags (toddler water park area), Sea World (our baby LOVED it), the best zoo around here is also there! All within a small drive of eachother and only a short drive from Austin! There are also coupons online for the zoo, Some at Pizza Hut for Six Flags and Sonic has some for Sea World to save a lil money :) You can enjoy lunch or dinner on the Riverwalk (they have a Rainforest Cafe too) and even take that short boatride tour on the river as well. We have 4 kids...our youngest being the 16 month old and anytime we wanted a short mini vacation over the years, that's where we went and ALL my kids always LOVED it! Still do!
