Probably not. My kids have so many "favorite" toys that they'd probably not even notice its absence. The TRUE favorites, however, are all too big to get sucked up, no matter how hard I try ;-)
You've sucked up a favorite toy into the vacuum. Do you open it up and dig through the vacuum bag to find it ? Would you feel guilty if you didn't try to get it out ?

If it's small enough to fit through a vacuum, it's small enough for them to forget. I only go looking if it's really expensive jewelry (which is never because I don't own any). =D
It depends. If it's a standard lego, and 12 copies of that same block exist in our house, then no. So we lost one...oh well. If it's a brush from a Polly Pocket or some other pointless teensy piece of garbage that never gets played with...no.
A FAVORITE toy? :) Of course. I'd dig the favorite toy out of the toilet, the trash, the vacuum, the gutter, wherever...hands are washable, memories of favorites are not.
I've never had a vacuum with a bag, so maybe I just don't understand the intricacy. I have vacuumed up lots of little toys, and it's not pleasant to dig around in the canister, but I do it. ;)
An absolute favorite toy, I would dig out. Just a toy, I wouldn't.
Well, I have sucked up plenty of toys that I did not retrieve and no one ever seemed to notice that the toy was missing.
However, if I ever suck up an important piece to an electronic or jewelry or something like that I might open up the bag and look for it.
You mean accidentally it got sucked up? Mine usually get sucked up on purpose!!
Did it out if it's part of a game or it will be missed. Otherwise, forget it!
I have done that.
ONCE only, I did open up the bag and get it.
Because, it was a special shell necklace my son got from his friend.
How did it get vacuumed up and you'd think I would have seen it, beforehand right?
Well, it apparently was under a sofa. I didn't know.
So then it got vacuumed up.
Ooh but my son knew it was there.... how? Because he said he put it there for safekeeping. Thinking that was a good safe place for it.
Other than that, no, I do not open up the bag.
No, I don't feel guilty. Because these things I vacuumed up, was not special in any manner. It was just another TINY Lego piece etc.
Did they see you vacuum it up?
Ditto Bug's response. I'd probably give it 24 hours. If child is still begging for it and it's the favorite, definitely go digging. If your child doesn't miss it by the end of the next day, don't bother.
=)
I have been known to, yes.
Thought I sucked up a lego the other day so I went through it in fact.
I now have a bagless which makes it super easy to do now. It was horrible when I had a bagged machine.
I really think it depends on the situation, to be truthful.
I have a Kirby and it has bags. If it was my fault (as in, if my nearly-6 y.o. son wasn't asked to clear it up) then I might buy a replacement. I don't want to breathe in all the stuff--likely including some legos-- that is in that bag!
If it was a case of my son not picking up (and we double-triple check the floor of his room-- he is paid to get all his stuff onto his bed so we have a clear floor when I clean) then, no. And NO guilt.
I have a bag less, so if isn't a big thing, but yeah, I'd probably try to get it out.
depends on the toy.

I have done this!
Favorite toy, yes absolutely dig around and fish it out!
Regular old toy, nope it's gone!!
Sucked up a soldier - ended up having to cut the hose (we have central vacuum) - which means we ended up buying a new hose!!
So I don't try and suck up any toys. If it's a LEGO or something like that? Most likely not. It usually depends upon the toy. My boys know that when I saw I'm cleaning up - I'm cleaning up and if their stuff is on the floor? Well, if **I* touch it - it's gone! They know I'm serious. So they pick up!!
Yes and yes. I would try to dig it out.
Probably would. I sucked it up, and I would go in there if I sucked up one of my earrings. They should clean up, so I could leave it there... Was it witnessed? and would it really be missed?
