Congratulations!!! It may be just your body growing and stretching to accomadate the baby. Trust your gut: if it feels like somethings wrong don't be afraid to call your dr.

If it feels like a menstrual cramp, or the pain is so severe you can not function, call your health care provider ASAP.

Otherwise, this is normal. I remember having cramps during my 2nd trimester, especially if I walked a long distance. A warm bath may help.

I too had the abdominal cramping during my 1st trimester. I remember it helped just to rest in bed, and sometimes it felt better to put my feet up. Next time you see your doctor, you can ask him/her if there's any safe pain medication at this point--maybe tylenol or something similar-I can't remember what's safe at this point. Congrats and good luck!

Congrats A.!
I had abdominal cramps in my first trimester too. My doctor said it was just the muscles and ligaments in the uterus stretching getting ready to make room for the baby. You should be able to put some heat on your back or legs or take some tylenol (no advil or ibuprofen)to relieve it if it gets too bad. You could also do some light exercise like stretching to help. I would also just check in with your doctor just to be sure.

A.

It could be your uterus stretching/growing for the little one. I had that with my kids too. Don't be afraid to ask the doctor. That's what they are there for (and get paid for!). I remember asking 101 questions with my first child... that's how you understand and learn about what's going on inside you.
If you can, get the book "What to expect when you're expecting". This should help you out too. If you don't like the formality kind of book, "The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy" by Vicki Iovine is a great one to read. It has advice and some humor too.
...and of course, this is a great bunch of moms to ask advice to also. It's great to learn from each other. :)
Enjoy your pregnancy and all the neat experiences that come with it :)

congrats on your baby!
this is usually completely normal. if your worried you could always ask your dr. they will probally tell you its normal as long as your not spotting along with the cramping. don't be afraid to call the dr or talk to the nurse they can usually answer the questions also. that is what they are there for. i had different questions with almost all my babies cause different things would happen with each one.

i had cramping in the begining then when you get bigger you get the pains on the side with the tendon's stretching. then the fake contractions kick in or turning wrong and pulling a muscle... i was amazed at how often there was pain and it was normal!

congrats again!

Also make sure that you are drinking enough water. The body cramps when you don't have enough water in your system and now alot of your water is going to the baby.

The abdominal cramps can be normal. I am currently pregnant with our 3rd and for the first 3 months I had the worst cramping with all 3 babies. It's your uterus making room for the little ones new home. It's hard not to worry about it, but as long as it goes away and is only intermittent pain, I would not worry to much. I found that warm, not hot, baths helped. You cannot take ibruprofen, but you could try tylenol if you want. It does go away and then you get the fun part.......the baby moving around inside you!

Congrats! I am sure it is normal since a lot of women get cramping in the 1st trimester. I only would beware if it is a constant cramp on one side. I had this at around 7-8 weeks and it ended up being a ectopic (tubal) pregnancy. I had the gut feeling that something more serious was happening. Use your gut and if you are worried call the Dr office the nurses can usually go through it with you and see if you need to come in or not. Good luck with everything and enjoy your pregnancy!

I had cramping in my first trimester with my first too. (Actually, I felt a lot of twinges and stuff the whole pregnancy.) Your body is changing a lot, even before you're "showing". Lots of things need to stretch and grow. I wouldn't hesitate to call your ob's office though, if you're worried about it.
And if you plan on having more children, the cramping will probably be less the second time around. I felt a lot better with my second.
Good luck with everything! The baby will definitely change your life...for the better! :)
