Hi Moms,

When my son was about 6 months old I started getting bumps on my forehead and one side of my cheek (NEVER had a acne problem).. After going to 2 different dermatologists, she finally put me on a gel that you use at night after you wash your face (it's called Differin).. I am SO obsessed with getting my skin back to normal (vain if you want to call it) that I had her put me on a oral medicine as well... Solodyn... It's REALLY expensive if you don't have insurance (about 450 per month). I am now on private insurance where dermatologists are NOT covered :0( I still have a Solodyn card so I can purchase it for 200.00 per month but that's still really expensive EVERY month...The dermatologist told me it was my hormones all out of wack but don't you all think that's weird, my son is 20 months old...Wouldn't my hormones have gone back to normal by now? I have tried everything it seems.. Solodyn DOES really help but I can't pay 200.00 every single month for it... I have tried Cetaphil, Proactiv, gels, creams, etc.. This really bums me out because I'm SO self-conscious about this.. I'm not used to EVER having a problem with my skin until after having my son.... Has anyone ever been on accutane? Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Hi Kristy,
First of all, try not to worry so much, as it seems this disorder is frequently associated with the pregnancy. It happened to me too, 2 mos after my daughter was born, and I find myself 100% in your story (including the desperation part). I have tried almost everything, but no results. Finally I found a smart dermatologist, he put me on Accutane, and 2 mos later I had my face back. No side effects (maybe a litlle dryness) and no other problems. I'm telling you this because this drug is considered having many possible and bad side effects. My doctor told me that he had never had before a bad experience with any of his patients. You should have some blood tests done before (as required). Another important issue, if you really love your face: you HAVE to change your cosmetic "habits" (use a face scrub at least 2 times a week, use only oil-free and non-clogging pores cosmetics, find a really good moisturizer. I can reccommend you ROC products, a french dermo-cosmetic line especially designed to treat a wide range of disorders).
Hope this can be helpful for you.

Have you tried to check in a natural foods store, such as Wild Oats or Whole Foods market for a natural remedy? Often'times they work as well or better than a prescription, and are much cheaper. Most of the time the clerks at these stores are fairly knowledgeable about what has worked for their customers.

Hey Kristy, sometimes after having a baby and your hormones go crazy it changes your body. Thats a lot of money your dishing out, have you asked your dermatologist about a cheaper way of getting your acne cleared? I was on Retin A when i had my first child because of Acne and I too as well as you did not have acne problems. My insurance didn't cover Dermatologist but the Retin A i could Afford and you use the smallest application and it lasts and it works fast!! There are different levels of Retin A depending on your Acne, I also purchased a Moisturizer from him because Retin A dries out the skin and causes it to peel. I can't remember how much it cost but i do know that 1 tube lasted a long time and it cleared me up really fast and you don't have to use it for life, after being clear for 6 months or more then you can see if you can get off the medicine and see if your acne comes back. I don't know what the price is for it now since that was years back but you should ask your doctor. How about that Pro Active on TV? Did you try calling them to see what their price is? Hope this helps.
