Acne and Frizzy Hair While Pregnant

OK, I am almost 4 months pregnant and feeling fat and ugly! UGH.
This is my second pregnancy, and my skin is breaking out MORE than ever, more than when I was a teenager. What can I do to help it?

Also, my hair is frizzy and gross. Running after a 2 year old, working part time, being pregnant - I cannot spend a lot of time on it. So I wear it up all the time. I would love to get it chemically straightened, but can you do that while pregnant? I colored my hair first pregnancy, and this time around with no problems.... but not sure about the straightening......

What can I do next?

Hi G.. So relate. My skin was really "excitable" lets say during pregnancy. :) Sensitive and breaking out. And I have naturally frizzy hair that started breaking during pregnancy :) And I felt ugly, altho everyone said differently. Some tips:
1. wash using gentle cleanser -- no fragrances, menthol, mint, alchohol.
2. no BHA stuff (dermatologist said this is no no during pregnancy).
3. ask dermatologist about which topical acne medication is safe.
4. LOTS OF CHEMICAL FREE SUNSCREEN.

As for the hair question, I would not do anything chemical now. Try masking with Pantene deep conditioner. I have tried them all -- from the most expensive..Pantene is simple and great.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, YOUR SKIN WILL RETURN TO NORMAL AND THE ACNE WILL BE A MEMORY, AND IT WILL BE WORTH IT.

AND YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! YOU ARE CARRYING LIFE.

No the the chemical straightening. Try drinking more water.

For me, the extra breakouts meant that I was having a girl. When I was pregnant with my son my skin was flawless.

hi there--

i also had acne like crazy (what happened to the pregnancy "glow"?) and my pin-straight hair started misbehaving, too. i was told by a dermatologist that topical erythromycin was safe for acne, and i got a prescription but never filled it. for the hair, i just used a ton of smoothing cream. and i avoided looking too closely in mirrors ;). luckily my skin looked okay in pics. it was just so disconcerting to see myself like that!

about 3 months postpartum, everything seemed to settle back down, and definitely by 9 months postpartum, i was back to my old self, at least skin- and hair-wise.

oh, and i also had a girl! good luck and hang in there!

G.,

Congrats on the new baby. Honestly I thin that the break-outs are more a function of your skin type (some skin is prone to break-outs) than what you are having. I know it's a common old-wives tail that acne means you're having a girl but my skin broke out with my son and my daughter (but again- my skin is prone to breakouts but the pregnancy really caused a flare-up)

I didnt use anything while pregnant becasue I was too scared to take a chance on it, but it did start to settle down after (and I began using topical acne creams after)

As for the hair, I'd try some leave-in conditioner mixed with a little shine serum to calm it down. Weekly deep-conditioning is good too. Good luck and i know it's hard feeling like you look terrible with the acne etc but I'm sure its worse in your eyes than anyone else's and it's all worth it for the little one :-)

Good luck.

I am 7-1/2 months pregnant and have had the same problem w/acne. I feel like i am going through puberty all over again and this also happened w/my first. I have found for me that clean and clear or nuetragean work and that you definitely have to make sure you wash your face at night and in the am.

I know you asked this question while ago, but I just read it today. I had acne my whole first trimester with my first pregnancy and then with my second pregnancy I started to break out and started using Arbonne's Purifying system and it cleared it within days. If you've never heard of them before, they sell all natural products. They are wonderful and now I use many of their products on my kids and myself. Not really sure about the hair since I have very fine hair that never frizzes. You can check out the products at Arbonne.com. I could get you a sample if your interested in trying without buying. Good luck and congratulations!

Actually you can do chemical straightening on your hair while pregnant. Both my doctor and my stylist just recommends not doing it during the first trimester. I'm on my third pregnancy and I've always waited until about 14-15 weeks to have it done. Chemical straighteners aren't supposed to be put directly onto your scalp to begin with so if done properly the risk of having it absorb into your skin is very low.
