My 2 year old son got into the A&D ointment and decided it would make good hair gel. Any suggestions for getting it out? We scrubbed his head with baby shampoo 3 times, but his head is still super greasy!
Okay, I found a great and easy solution. I covered his head in cornstarch which sucked up the grease and kept him from getting all the furniture greasy. I waited a day (don't know if you have to, I just got busy) and then washed his head with baby shampoo. Worked perfectly!
I was a little scared to try the dishsoap suggestions because I didn't want to get it in his eyes then have him never trust me again when I'm trying to shampoo his hair.
Thanks for all the advice, someone had suggested putting baby powder on his head which gave me the cornstarch idea. Thanks.
I agree , dish soap! Works on greasy dishes right? lol Seriously Ive done that before when I used baby oil for my sons cradle cap. It does work!
I think Dawn is the only answer. I did the vaseline in gradeschool and we didn't know about Dawn then. It may take a few washes.
Dish soap works and then after if there's still a little residue put some baby powder in:)
LOL! Sorry to laugh, but I had the same situation with my daughter with vaseline! All in her long hair. UGH!! We just kept washing her hair with dawn liquid soap (like the previous poster said). But the first thing we did was take pictures!!! It really was the only thing that would cut the grease. =0) Good luck!
lol My daughter did that same thing at that same age with vicks vapor rub. The only other thing that I tried was dish soap it worked ok but it still took about 2 weeks for it all to finally wash out.
It's going to take a long time to get it out - unfortunately.
We deal with this a lot within my company because many people use petroleum jelly when trying to get rid of head lice. It actually creates much more of a problem because the grease is so hard to take care of afterwards, and all the washing can really damage the brittle skin on their scalps.
I'd either give him a good, shorter hair cut, or just deal with it and continue on as much as possible normally.

You might have to resort to a stronger shampoo for oily hair and just be extra careful not to get it in his eyes... not even sure that will work, though.
Dawn dish liquid gets the oil off the delicate sea birds in an oil spill!!! Could be worth a try!!! Naturally, avoid the eyes! :)

Can you sprinkle some baking soda in his hair? Baking soda is supposed to work well on grease for scouring, so maybe it would work in his hair. Maybe sprinkle it on, let it sit for a bit then use dish soap or one of the other suggestions to wash.

Use a mild dish soap like palmolive. It is specially made to get grease out.....

My daughter did this ALL the time at that age! I tried everything from clarifying shampoo to dish soap. The only thing that worked was that Gojo stuff that mechanics use to clean their hands. I'd use that and then wash with shampoo and then use a good conditioner.

Dawn dish soap will work. My daughter dumped a whole bottle of baby oil in the top and "went swimming" when she was little. I tried everything but only Dawn worked. Good luck!
If the Dawn doesn't work, try Prell--if it can remove hair dye in just a couple of washings, it'll probably work pretty well on grease too.
