O.K. - I know that this is pretty general, but I am just looking for a price range. We are house hunting and we need to have 1.5 baths. We have no problem with the alf bath being in a basement and are not looking for anything fancy. Just one to do the job we need it to do! LOL
If you added a half bath to a basement that was NOT already plumbed for one, about how much did it cost? I am just looking for a general price range to see if it is worth it for us to look into doing this. In our current home we had to add one, but the pipes were already set up for a toilet and sink, so we are curious as to how much is costs from the start.

I don't know about the costs, but when you get quotes it'd be worthwhile to get quotes for both a 1/2 bath and a full bath. A full might not be that much more, and could be a better resale feature.
We are in the same boat. Two quotes later the plumbing alone will be $2500. Probably would have cost $700 when house was built...arg! Then the framing, drywall, fixtures, etc.....

Well several years ago, my late husband put a shower, a sauna, and a bathtub w/ jets in our basement. He did the work himself. So aside from permits, he kept costs low. He got the shower and tub from Home Depot and the sauna ....couldn't tell you. But for keeping costs low and doing the work himself, it sure brought up the value of our house. We had 1.5 between the other two floors, which he re-did himself as well. The tub that was there when we bought the house was replaced with a standing shower.
The casualty in it all was that by bringing the basement shower stall in, the sliding door at one end of the house got knocked off track properly.

You will want to check with your municipality to see if you can legally have a 1/2 or full bath added to your basement.
My aunt did this to her home and when she went to sell it the city made her rip it out because of building codes.
