Really this is about my niece-in-law (my BIL's niece). Super-sweet girl, never a trouble-maker or anything of the sort. She's college educated and had a good job. She's 24 yrs old.
Last anyone heard from her was when she sent an email to all her contacts, telling them she was deleting her email account...and around that same time my SIL& BIL got a Christmas package from her filled with stuff from the place that she last worked at. But apparently it's now been several weeks since anyone's heard from her; her roommates turned down her request to allow this guy (who apparently is the one who's got her under his spell) to move in with her...and so she then moved out, giving away her furniture and taking only a few belongings. Her mom actually had to go and pick up the rest of her stuff from her apartment and now has it in her house. She also cashed in her savings accounts, stopped going to her church, quit her job, etc. The people at her church had tried to intervene, telling her this guy was a bad influence, but she wouldn't hear of it, and now she's gone.
She is absolutely NOT the type of girl who has a history of running off or doing anything on a whim like this. LIke I said, she is a sweet, family-centered girl.
What are the legal options to help find her?
Once she is found, does anyone know of where de-programming is done? Like from a cult?
All of us that know her are scared that this may end up like Jonestown. Help?
The first step would be to call the police from where she last lived and file an official missing persons report. You could also hire a private investigator to help track her down.
If you contact the owner of the local billboard company and the local paper, they might run an ad for free.
Nancy Grace has a team of investigators, but I am not sure if they will intervene when it appears she chose to run away.
Do you know her social security number? You could go online and run a credit check with her number and see what apartments have recently checked her credit. I don't think this is legal for you to do, but maybe the police would if you told them she was missing.
Her parents can contact the police and ask if they can put out a missing person's report on her. Since she is an adult, it's more difficult, but since they haven't heard from her and have no way to contact her, then they'll probably do it.
Have her parents filed a missing persons report? I'd probably start there. Do they have the means to hire a PI?

I would try to find the guy and you will most likely find her.
The only thing you can really do is file a missing persons report. If you have it, provide as much info about the guy as possible. Can you google him and try to find some of his relatives? They may be able to help.

Is the guy on facebook? What do her friends know about him?
I would of course report this to the police.. then I would hire a personal investigator to search for the guy. Contact his family etc..
I would start spreading information about this girl and guy anywhere and anyplace possible.. Fliers, handouts, posters, news sources, facebook to all of her friends. Ask her roomates to go back an look at any and all emails, facebook links and text she ever sent to a group and now have them send a message to those groups, informing them that this girl is missing and give them her parents contact info.
People need to know there is a concern for her safety. SHE needs to know her family wants to hear from her ASAP, just to verify she is ok..
Here in Austin, there is a HUGE billboard with the photo of a missing young woman.. She sounds like your niece.. She just went missing with a boyfriend and her family wants info.. The Police are mainly treating it as a grown woman who wanted to leave, but until there is evidence of any foul play, they are not able to do much more.
did you go to the and try to report a missing person? but im not so sure if they will file it unless they think foul play was involved. the law is is she is an adult and if she wants to disappear then she has the right to. I would def start with the police dept. I hope everything turns out good.
Contact local newspapers and tv channel to spread the news accross the state and the nation, if necessary...even if she'not been abducted (since she willingly left) she still may be in a bad place: good girls can have issues as well, when you least expect it. Check on cults in the area, motels, etc...good luck!
