Any recommendation on how to exercise safely during pregancy? I've heard and read a lot about cardio and yoga. Thanks!

What can I do next?

I tell the students in my childbirth education classes to continue exercising as they have been before they got pregnant. Jogging or running will gradually come to an end at some point if you do that. Water exercise, such as deep water running or shallow water aerobics is great; as is swimming. Yoga, tai chi, walking, weight lifting, any other cardio, belly dancing is also wonderful
Best wishes,

The easy, dumb answer is always to go for a walk. :)

I was working out before pregnancy this time, but due to illness and exhaustion am considering myself no longer regular and starting fresh. I worked out a lot with DVDs so just got the Denise Austin Fit and Firm Pregnancy one. She is way too perky, but her workouts are usually good and I already previewed it and hope to start using it today. I was going to do everything on my own, but thought it would be easier than modifying things on my own. You can always do seated arm/upper body exercises with light hand weights and/or exercise bands to keep your upper body strong (those are great when you're watching television). Depending on how far along you are and if you have any health issues/restrictions, you should not be doing anything on your back. Good luck!

I would suggest doing light cardio and light weight lifting as long as you are already an active person. If you are starting a fitness routine b/c of your pregnancy, then ask your doctor.

Walking is ALWAYS a great way to get moving and will keep you feeling energized during the times when you feel huge and uncoordinated. Yoga is great too and many hospitals have the names of people who do prenatal yoga.

Check with your ob/gyn, but usually you can continue doing any exercise you did before you were pregnant, like running, walking, swimming, etc. Yoga is great, and I really recommend water aerobics.

I agree with everything else that has already been said. I exercised through both my pregnancies and my best advice is listen to your doctor and listen to your body! I highly recommend exercising if you're able. :)

I think it depends on where you are in your pregnancy and how fit you are to begin with. I'm 37 weeks pregnant with my third child and I continued doing my regular exercise (with a few exceptions - no sit ups after about 14 weeks) and Zumba up until about 7.5 months. The only reason I stopped is because it started to become uncomfortable. Yoga is good option for anyone I would think. At this point, I'm just walking and doing exercises on a ball because I'm just really too uncomfortable to do anything else.

I was told "NO TWISTING!" or sit ups. Apparently, movements where twisting at the waist is included (such as digging, gardening, raking, etc), can be harmful to a pregnancy.
I'm not sure why sit-ups would be harmful in early pregnancy but I would rather not risk it.
Swimming, walking, and yoga are all highly recommended.

i worked out my whole pregnancy at the gym doing cardio and light weights. it does make a difference in how you feel and wards off fatigue.
