My daughtr's boyfriend is graduating from High School and we are in need of gift ideas. They have only been "a couple" for two months but have been friends for almost two years.
He will be going away to college in the fall. She will be a junior in HS.

One thing that is needed and my college kids loves was a clip on fan. It is great to make while noise to help new college kids get to sleep and also helps with the air quality in a dorm room. My one daughter actually had 3 in her dorm room. Even in the winter months the dorm rooms are hard to keep comfortable and the fans really help. A good fan can cost up to $50 but most are about $20-30.

I would give a gift card to a store, like Wal Mart or something similar for him to get something for his dorm room this fall.

Might sound silly but I think any guy would be happy to get a gift card for gas.

What I do is get a couple bath sheets that are in the college colors and have his name or the school's name embroidered on it. Depending on how close we are I also give cash with the towels.

Maybe a gift card of some kind beings he's going to college.Unless you don't want to give him a gift card. How about something he could use for college.Like a personalized pen and pencil set with a journal.

Boys are a bit harder than girls.....for example, no jewelry, corny t-shirts or personal care products are desired. You say he will be going away to school in the fall.....use this as a springboard....give him something for a dorm room, a gift certificate for somewhere like Bed, Bath & Beyond, where he can purchase ex-long twin bedding for the dorm bed (that's a normal size at most colleges so his sheets from home don't fit) or Best Buy to supplement his electronic needs ( a flash drive, add to a laptop purchase, software? ..) or a phone card that he can use to call home (your daughter perhaps??)......Just do what you think is best, he will appreciate you thinking of him even if he doesn't express it....I know, I have 3 sons.

How about a gift card to a restaurant near his dorm. I remember being so SICK of the dorm food, I would relish a trip to Burger King.

There are so many things they need for their dorm rooms, but she could get him a sweatshirt from the college he is attending. She will feel that he remembers her each time he wears it!

If you want to get a gift card, why don't you look and see what is near the college. That way when he is in college and may be "short" of funds then he can use it. I did that for a gift and they called me and told me I saved their life because it was the weekend and they were starving and went and bought groceries. It made me feel really good. Another thing I have done, but I don't know if you want to is I made cookie order card( I put down about four different kinds or a variety box) and let them circle what kind of cookies wanted. I made four cards, stamped and addressed them, they get four each year they are in college. I have expanded them each year, by included, bread, muffins, brownies, etc. Most of them send them right before finals. Good luck.

You sound a little like me...my daughter is a sophomore and has been dating a boy for the last three months. Nothing serious, but we weren't sure what to do about his grad gift. We gave him $50 cash (he's not going away, but attending the community college), but I second the suggestions by those who said gift cards for restaurants near campus or esp a gas card. Those could really come in handy when he's short on cash down the road.

We struggled with what amount for a while since they aren't serious (at all - my daughter's pretty aloof about the whole thing). But I finally settled on that amount since he brought her to prom and thought it was a good trade-off so to speak.

He's going away to college? How about a gift card for Bed, Bath, and Beyond or Target? Also, you can never go wrong with an iTunes gift card.

HOw nice of her to consider him for a gift...Keep it impersonal like a Best Buy gift card for his favorite CD or video...OR a gift card to their favorite eatery like TGIF or Olive Garden unless she knows of a personal gift that he has really wanted that is not too expensive and is outer wear like a college sweatshirt to his new college...
NO personal jewelry esp not with inscriptions...
Good luck!

What all teenagers want the most for graduation is cash. I would give him a check in whatever amount you were planning to spend.

I second the cash. That is always the most helpful - both for the graduate and their parents!
