My son recently had his MMR Varicella vacine. two days later he had rashes, diaharrea and a fever. My dr syas it was just a gastro-intestinal virus. its been over a week and he still has the rash (worse now) and the diaharrea started again over the weekend. Does anyone have these symtoms or can explain whats happening with my child. For the most part his temperment is the same and the rashes dont itch. Help me pls.

Dear G.,
I would get a second and third opinion as soon as possible. There has been a lot of bad press about the MMR. It sounds like side effects from the Varicella, but I would really look into it more. Good Luck.

when my daughter developped a rash all over her body and her eyes swelled up after her mmr they said it wasn't related because it was too soon-supposedly it occurs 7-10 days later. They said it was probably that I had changed laundry detergent(which I hadn't)or something else. Therefore it was not reported as a reaction. It happened the same day. Hers did clear up after some benadryl.
After a few other odd reactions to other vaccines I took a closer look and did lots of reading. It is an area that all parents should read up on but usually don't unless something happens to one of your kids.
Hope your situation resolves soon!
Take care,

I realize this is a little late but hopefully it will help you in the future. When my son gets a diaper rash I use the best ointment out there - Target's "Butt Paste" and then cover that with powder. For a bad rash it will take 3-4 applications but then it's completely gone. The ointment helps heal and protect the skin/The powder helps dry up the urine faster so it doesn't sit on their rears.
Of course, change diapers more often and if using a regular wipe hurts they make wipes without alcohol in them that work wonders (you can also rinse regular wipes in water and it works almost as good), use plenty of soap and really clean their bottom during bath time.
