Hey to all. I don't think that I have a request , but more I need some advice. I have been a SAHM for my daughters entire life, granted she is only 20 months old, but still I have been with her day in and day out since the first day of her life. My husband is a great supporter in every way, however I have known for some time that I will have to return to work, I just didnt really want to face the music. You see my husband wants to go back to school, and I totally support him on that, but that means I have to go to work, to ease some of the financial stress off of him. I actaully have an interview on Monday(and I hope it works out in my head) but my heart dosent want to leave my daughter at our neighbors house. I completly trust our neighbor, but you ladies know what i mean, I dont want to leave my baby with anybody for 8 hours a day...I have mixed emotions, and I guess I just want to know how others of you did it. Got over the emotional pain of having to return back to work. And also I never have had a "real" job...I have been in school for the past 3 1/2 years not working, and before that I was in the Army for 4 1/2 years..SO i really havent worked a real job in my life, unless you include a minimum wage job when I was a teenager...Any advice/ or any words of wisdom would be great...thanks
A.

I guess the only advice that I have for you is that I would be very cautious of putting your child in a neighbors care. I recently had a very bad experience with a neighbor who watched my son 1 day a week for 5 hours. She watched him for well over a year and everything seemed great. Her and I were very good friends and talked all of the time. All of a sudden things seemed very different and wrong. I kept asking questions...but she never told me what was going on. Finally, one day everything kind of came to a head and I confronted her about what was going on and I was very shocked to find out some of her personal issues. I immediately stopped using her for childcare, however, unfortunately she is still my neighbor and we are definitely not friends. You are by far better off finding a quality day care facility that is stringently regulated - too many things can go wrong. I thought that it would not seem so bad if I left him with a neighbor instead of a daycare facility, but I assure you that I never realized what a bad choice I made. If you decide to pull a child from a daycare, you never have to see that person again. You do that with a neighbor, you still see them every day. This was a person that I completely trusted and was a VERY good friend - but you just never what goes on behind closed doors. Good luck! I know how difficult it can be, but quite honestly my son has flourished since I moved him to a great Mother's Day Out program. Your child will be excited to play with other kids her age and most facilities teach an educational lesson plan as well - food for thought!

Hey A.,
I hear ya! I had a similar situation and thank God I did because I found my calling in life through it! When I had our daughter I returned to work after the typical maternity leave. It really wasn't too hard for me to leave my daughter. We were living with my mother in law at the time, and my daughter simply stayed there while I went off to work. Therefore she was in a familiar surroundings, and in great hands so...

However!!! When I got back to work, and returned to corporate america I hated it! It just wasn't the stress and pressure I wanted in my life. I had spent several weeks without and fell in love with that lifestyle.

Checking in with your daughters keeper and knowing all is well will get you through your day just fine until you are used to everything, my consern would be working period.

If you have any second thoughts I'd love to share what saved my life... I could go on and on, but let me know if you'd like to consider something outside the box and I'll tell you more!

Best of luck! She's in good hangs, not far from home and you have the ability to call and check in as much as you want. That wouldn't be the best idea if she was in a daycare as that would interrupt their day too much. This is a great setup! I bet you'll get through just fine! One day at a time! Prayer helps too!!! Both for the well being of your child, as well of peace of mind for mommy!

Good luck, I'd love to chat more, ~T.~

I would say that the Army is more than a REAL job, and prolly much harder. Don't stress about the job. A job is a job is a job. If you don't like one you can always get another. Focus on getting your little one settled. Once you are comfortable with that I think the rest will be gravy for you! Good Luck.

A., it's hard going back to work. It's hard leaving your child with someone else no matter how much you trust and like them. No advice can take that away...just remember to spend quality time with your daughter when you can. It will take some time, but both of you will adjust. I wish the best of luck on your interview on Monday and remember that time takes care of everything!
