I have 2 questions:

1. Emma just started walking 2 days ago. Any suggestions on where to get her fitted for real shoes in Manhattan?

2. She is close to outgrowing the infant car seat and since she'll be 1 year and over 20 pounds shortly, we're looking for suggestions for her next car seat.

I appreciate your advice, recommendations, etc.

We have a Recaro car seat. It is made by sports car designers. The form is one solid piece. It is more "closed" on the side then a Britex but I feel its safer because of it. They cost the same as Britex and are good from birth to 8.

Since I am not sure where you live in Manhattan I will tell you about a few places for shoes. There is Harry's (83rd and B'way) and Tip Top Shoes (72nd street) on the Upper West Side. There is Great Feet in the 80's on Lexington. I recommend you go to a store for the first pair of shoes to get a good measurement. Then something like preschoolians is great.

We have the Britax Roundabout which is great. It fits easily in all cars and is very safe.

I got a Britax Marathon for both my kids. It's comfortable, got a good safety rating from Consumer Reports, and comes in lots of different designs. They are expensive though, $269, but can be used up to 65 pounds. The one thing I would suggest is getting larger strap covers so that the straps don't dig into your child's neck.

For walking shoes, I stick with good old Stride Rite. They will measure her feet and I love them.
For the car seat, I find they are very helpful & knowledgable sales people at Buy Buy Baby. Go to the store and they will help you find a good fit. GL!

I used Little Eric for shoes on Madison Avenue in the 80s when my son was between one and two. They can be expensive, but they fit his feet very well and were very friendly.

Hi K.,

As for shoes - have you looked at Preschoolians? They are available online and they will send you a free measuring device, so it's pretty easy and the selection is GREAT!
http://preschoolians.com/

We were investigating carseats for our DD as we were nearly transferred out of state and would have to buy a car and a carseat. My favorite was the Maxi Cosi Priori for a couple of reasons. Excellent color selection (my husband is a graphic designer, so he can't stand anything pastel or Pooh Bear). Also the safety standards in Europe are stronger/harder/more difficult than here in the States - so this one meets up with their standards. Check out this site for lots of reviews on all sorts of car seats:

Then again - based on what type of car you have, that might not work, so check out this site:

Good luck -
A.
