Advise on Finding Rental Properties

SO here is our dilema. My husband was transfered and has been living in PA for 20 months. We opted to have the children and myself stay behind initially. My daughter has special needs and school services and private therapies and we were in a place making progress so we thought it would be best to transition her at the end of last school year. We tried to sell our home and actuall entered into escrow twice last summer but both loans were never able to close. We took the home off the market only to re-list agin this summer. We are thinking it may not sell this summer as we are competing with 3 foreclosures in our neighborhood. We are thinking we should move the family regardless and rent a home in PA ( husband is currently renting a 1 bedroom apartment that would not hold our family). We are unable to rent out our home in KC due to CC&R as it is a newer subdivision. I submitted to our HOA and they said again NO. We have a dog, cat and cockatoo and are having no luck on Craigslist. Does anyone know of another way to find homes avaliable for rent? We are hoping to stay around $2000 a month as we will have our current mortgage also. Any advise would be helpful. THX

Will you be able to afford carrying the mortgage AND the rent for a house in Pgh? If so, you might have your husband subscribe to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette or look in the classifieds there online at www.post-gazette.com.
You could also contact a realtor (Northwood Realty, Howard Hanna, ReMax) in Pittsburgh to help you find something to rent.
You could also try www.rentals.com.
Good luck!

Welcome to Pittsburgh! (It is, Pittsburgh, right?) One of the more delightful things about Pittsburgh is that at $2000/month, you could easily buy a beautiful house in Pittsburgh. June 2009 Money magazine just had an article about how Pittsburgh is actually the WORST city in the country to rent in-- our home prices are relatively low, and we are actually expecting 2% growth in our home prices this year-- which has been pretty steady over the last several years.

We used Prudential Realty-- Marsha Minz. She was very nice and found us a house in Edgewood, a neighborhood (borough, really- welcome to Pittsburgh) that we ADORE.

Good luck!

I live in the Crafton section of Pittsburgh a very nice and quiet neighborhood and great for families. I know the house down the street was for rent (Barr Ave 15205) but dont know the perticulars. I use this website to find houses www.trulia.com and its a great site for whatever your looking for! Good Luck you should be able to find something really reasonable here and fast since the market is the way it is and people are renting more than selling!

I live by the Pittsburgh airport and I utilized Realtor.com for rental when I moved from Arizona, I own my home and I found when looking for rentals there just was nothing for a family, I know it is difficult, you can also go to WPXI.com and they have a lonk for the Pittburgh area not sure where you are moving to.
