I just get this panicky feeling when I think of going on a vacation. By car is ok.. on a plane-- I just get nervous.. or even a cruise. I'm not in control - I'm not the one driving. I get scared thinking about being closed in. HELP. We want to go away this year to celebrate out 20th anniversary... and it sounds great when we talk about it.. but I get nervous thinking about it. We were suppose to go away 3 years ago.. and the morning of the plane trip, I freaked and decided not to go. I've been on planes and cruises and loved it.. but it's been at least 6 years and something in my mind has changed. what can I do? Hypnotist?? has anyone tried to get hypnotized? does it work??

istarted feeling the same way 2 years ago when I was traveling back home to see father, it was a sense of not being able to breathe and feeling as if the seats were too small and I just couldn't breathe, well I had to get off the plane wich was really embarasing, I was then diagnosed with claustrophobia, I always get those episodes every time I travel but I am able to relax if I take cold meds or allergy pills, like zyrtec, it makes me drowsy and relaxed so I'm not so nervous and aware of everything, I would suggest seing your regular doctor, you can also look for natural remedies, homeopathic meds are really good and have no side effect, I wish you the best

Talk to your doctor and get some Xanax or something else that you can take as soon as you get to your seat. It will mellow you for take off and keep you mellow for about 3-4 hours. Please go on your trip and enjoy.

Also, have you ever thought of taking a cruise from a local port? No need to fly. Plus a cruise ship will be like being at a resort so you won't feel closed in at all.

Anxiety is tough. The best long-term solution is short-term therapy to learn relaxation techniques. Short-term... a plane ride is likely a better option b/c it tends to be shorter and more direct than a cruise (3 or 4 hours rather than 3 or 4 days). I would talk with your primary physician about a limited prescription for a mild sedative. There's no shame in it and lots of people take something to relax them to get on a plane.

Hypnosis is successful for a small group of people. A friend of mine was hypnotized during her labor and delivery and swears she didn't feel a thing. Talk with a hypnotherapist. He or she can tell you whether or not it is possible.

I understand. It's happened to me also at times, and I don't know why? Sometimes, I think I'm confusing negative-nervousness with just plain old good positive-excitement! Discuss your concern with your doctor, or a psychiatrist. There are prescription drugs to help you. For me, Alprazolam was prescribed, which treats anxiety and panic disorder. I have taken it at different times, and it successfully works to calm me, so that I can be happy, and enjoy myself! Good luck, I wish you well!

No valium needed! Learn to use EFT*. See www. emofree .com for directions. You may want to go to a practitioner once or just learn it on your own. It's quite easy and can wipe out fears instantly and I mean instantly. They don't come back and it's as if you never had them.

The nice part is that you're in control of the EFT and you can use it any time unlike when you go to a hypnotist.

im afraid of flying too. if you arent going to have the kids with you to look after, i would definitely take something. ask your doc for some valium or the like. i have never taken it for anything else ever, but to fly i take it before i even leave the house, then again before boarding. if you have hubby to take care of you and everything and you dont mind being ummm... not the sharpest tack in the box :) then go for it. and, as i found out, if you do have the kids and dont want to not have your wits about you, they might be enough of a distraction to do the trick.

Unless you have underlining Medical or Emotional challenges...I think you simply have Anxiety. Talk to your Doctor, first research the Drug Klonopin... If you think this is something that will help you, ask for a prescription. My guess is your Anxiety is not just about Vacationing. Most likely you are challenged with it everyday. You know your Body (and mind) better than anyone. Use that knowledge to seek assistance...I wish you well,

Hello A.!

I am the mother of four children ages 28,25,18 & 14. I have been married for 30 years to a funny, unique and loyal guy. Congratulations on your 20 years of marriage and your wonderful children.

Celebrate you should!! I know that the Higher Power that I know and call God loves you, your family and wants you to not just live, but to enjoy your life. There are always the things we do everyday because they are our duty or we have commitments we make. But an important part of life is joy and the joy of living! I used to deprive myself of joy - not any longer. Think of the example you set for your children also. I want mine to see me live and live to the fullest and with all the joy I can contain and share.

Long story short: Businesses reinvent themselves to stay competitive and keep market share. I decided I could do the same with God's help. I learned to think and live positively, take care and nurture myself, that what I think about I bring about. That what Abraham Lincoln said is true for me at least, "People are about as happy as they make their minds up to be." And...

At a meeting, I heard a woman mention that she had quit smoking as a result of undergoing hypnosis! I soon found an ad for Alternative Hypnosis in E.Syracuse. The gentleman who's practice it is has 30 years of experience. I have found him to be ethical, caring, straightforward and kind. He first evaluates and then lets you know if he believes if he can help.

I have had wonderful results. I underwent hypnosis for procrastination and self confidence. (I was afraid of people and probably myself LOL too!)It has helped in my process of reinventing myself.

A. - you are so worth it! - That is living your life joyfully!! How do I know? John 3:16

Hi A.,
I'm afraid to fly, too. It's a control thing for me, too. You said that something in your mind has changed... perhaps it's that you are a mom now. Maybe you are too scared to travel because you can't stand to think that something might happen to you; and then who would care for your children? I hope I don't upset you, but I know that being a mom can cause the "what ifs" to constantly play through your mind. I would talk to a psychologist about how you feel before resorting to meds. I've never tried hypnosis, but it helped my aunt quit smoking - so it works for some people. Best of luck to you - you deserve a vacation!!
