Hi moms! My husband and I both work full time, and my son who will be starting school in Sept., will need to attend an afterschool program. There are two that come to and stay on campus at the school, AlphaBEST and the YMCA. Does anyone have any experience with either of these? I am just wondering which is better. Or if maybe one is more geared towards fun, while the other is geared toward education. (I am actually leaning towards fun!)

Any responces would be greatly appreciated!

A friend of mine's son goes to AlphaBest at Christie elementary, and he loves it.

Hi J., both my girls go to AlphaBEST and I am extremely happy with the program. My neice and nephew also attend AlphaBEST at their school. I choose AlphaBEST over the Y program as it seems to be a little more structured. My girls come home with homework at least started everyday!! Hope this helps!

My sons attends the AlphaBest program at Ashley Elem. and it is awesome!! The director hires only college age teachers that have a scholastic interest in education. (Meaning they are majoring in education of some sort) and the focus is geared towards fun... they do their homework as well as have snacks, crafts, spanish lessons, playground games, and movies. It's been my understanding that the Y hires high school kids to manage their after school programs.

I don't know about Christie Elem, but I do know about Sparks AlphaBest program, which should be similar. I'm very impressed by their program. It's run by teachers, and school staff, very organized with snack time, academic time, play time, craft time...My child loves to go. If I come to pick him up during a fun craft, he wants to stay until he's done.

Hope this helps.

HI - My son is in 3rd grade and has attended the YMCA at another school in Frisco since kindetgarten. He loves it. I hear the Y is more geared towards fun, but they do have homework time. Alpha best may be better for the younger ones, but I think the older ones prefer the Y. At our school the Y meets in the gym and Alphabest in the cafeteria.

Not sure if this helps but Kids R Kids buses to all the local schools. They have an after school program. There is one on Preston just south of Stonebrook, one on coit just past El Dorado and one on Main st.
