I have a Jeep Liberty and my air conditioning has been trying to go out for the last week. Since I have 2 kids and it's hot, I need to get it repaired ASAP. Can anyone recommend an honest repair shop in the Carrollton area.
Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi S.,
I too had a compressor go out in my Toyota van. I was nervous about AC repair with high cost and getting poor service. I looked around and found a GREAT place. I'm sorry it's not in Carrollton but in Garland. They have great reviews on service and cost. They treated (very personable) us very well. My van was done in the time promised (one day) and the cost was very reasonable.
Here is their site: http://mashauto.net/index.html

Best Regards,
C.

First, get three proposals from three auto repair places. (Do not include Walmart in that group as many people tell me that their people are not trained well at all.)

Maybe it is only in need of freon!!! I

don't live in that area now, but I do remember using Christian Brothers Automotive ###-###-#### and being very impressed. Some other repair center was trying to take advantage of me and they did not. I saved a lot of money.

I've not personally used them but a good friend of mine swears by this group...they are Old Downtown Automotive in Downtown Carrollton. He says that this place is extremely honest and fair on pricing. I plan on using them after my warranty goes on my car.

We used to live at Frankford & the Tollway and went to the Christian Brothers Automotive there (it's at Rosemeade & the Tollway). They did a good job for all our repairs and they will probably shuttle you & the kids to/from the repair shop (in your car) if you're within a certain radius. The only downside is that they are only open M-F.

We have use Techs on Wheels in Lake Dallas for the last 6 years. They have always been below dealer cost and excellant service. They are doing maintenance work on our car this week for a trip - you will love them.

my experience with having my ac repaired has not been good, so i wanted to tell you what i've learned. then at least you'll be somewhat informed when they are telling you the problem.

if the ac works when you are accelerating, but gets hot when you are stopped, it could be one of 2 things. the radiator fan motor is out, which you can tell by looking at the fan under the hood with the motor on, or you have a bad relay. the relay is a $13 part at an auto part store that is easy to change out yourself. you could probably google it. i have had both of these happen to me, and they are pretty inexpensive to fix.
when i had a bad relay, i took it to 2 different places, and neither could fix my problem after charging me plenty. my uncle, who designs auto ac systems, finally figured it out.
if it's something else, like the compressor, it'll be expensive. you can hear the compressor cut on and off, though.
hope this helps!

I've used Brakes Plus (they do all kinds of repairs) and have been really pleased with their work and price. They are located at 1961 E Frankford (1 Block East of Josey) and their number is ###-###-####. Best of luck!

We started taking my Jeep to Christian Brothers on the corner of Midway and George Bush and have been more than happy with them. The staff is so nice and always explains everything in normal language. I would take it there.

When our previous cars (Jeep Cherokee and Honda Civic) were out of warranty, we always took them to Tim's Auto Repair in Carrollton (near Addison airport) for repairs. We always felt they were honest and reasonable. Good luck! http://www.timsautomotiverepair.com/index.php?mod=
