Just make sure to air out your house by opening windows everyday. I have always heard that if you run a humidifier you must ventilate to prevent mold buildup with all that moisture. Wouldn't hurt to try it.
Hello!!,
Partly because its cool out and we have the heat on...and partly due to my husbands recent surgery, we have had a cool humidifier on in the house. Its not a big one, by any means. We also generally dont run it except for the evenings.
My question....is this the cause for the funky smooth, black "dust" thats seems to be covering all smooth surfaces? My hypothesis is that the air is moist, hence the dust is just sticking a little better...I dont know...I live on the Gulf Coast and the humidity is usually pretty high here when its warm. I have never seen this before.
Thanks...M:)

I have noticed a white, not black dust all over everything in our bedroom. We couldn't figure out what it was from, but I bet it is from running our humidifier lately! We clean our humidifier every other day with vinegar, so I am not sure what else would help. Hopefully we will both get some answers!
Just a random question. Are you running your fireplace by any chance? We moved into a new house and were running the fireplace and ended up feeling completely dumb after realizing that this black fine powder everywhere was actually because the chimney flute was closed. Yikes! Just a thought.
i agree with Kate below. just air out the house. and be sure to clean humidifier according to manufacturer's instructions.
Probably the humidifier. We run one in our son's room and it does cover things in a white dust. Check the filter on it. It may need to be replaced. We also use filtered water in ours. That seems to help cut down on the dust.
