Dear D., Have you taken him to the doctor? You may need to change his milk or he could have an infection in his system. Let us know what happens and love that little guy! Grandma Mary

Take him to see the doctor... also see if there is anything that you changed in his life w/in the last few weeks. If so, try changing back to what you use to do - not the new stuff.

If he has not been sick, is he teething? Yogurt w/ active cultures can be fed to help restore the balance. Also, be sure to use a protective barrier in the diaper area. Diarrhea sets them up for yeast infections pretty easily.

I agree, call the dr. 2 weeks is a long time. In the mean time try some binding foods. We use the BRAT diet per our dr - Banana, Rice, Apples, Toast. At 10 months you can at least do banana and apples. Good luck!

Oh and I'm not sure if you are giving any juice yet, if so, I would stop that till he is regular again. Apple juice will make it worse. I find that strange that apples are binding but apple juice loosens things up. I think it has something to do with the fiber in real apples but the fiber isn't in the apple juice...sorry to go kind of off topic there!

Take him to the pedi tomorrow at the latest, he could be dehydrated. are his eyes sunk? or lips chapped? these are signs of dehydration and it's very dangerous for infants. Can he eat solids like bananas or apples? some cereals are good too but please take him to the pedi.
keep us posted and I hope your little one feels better soon,

If he's eating these foods, you could try giving him some bananas or apple sauce. Avoid all fruit juices.

Make sure you use lots of diaper rash cream to prevent a rash.

If he has any type of fever. I would call the doctor. Also give it the weekend, and if it doesn't improve call the doctor.

I agree, call your ped right away! At his age, this could be seriously depleting. He needs to be seen and evaluated by the doctor.

Please don't do anything until you've sought the advice of your pediatrician. While applesauce, bananas, rice and toast won't hurt him, using OTC anti-diarrhea products may be dangerous at his age unless recommended by the pediatrician.

2 weeks is a LONG time for diarrhea not to correct itself. Don't ever be afraid to call the pediatrician even for something that seems minor. Our daughter had what appeared to be a pimple on her back. We didn't think much of it until a friend commented that it looked like her son's MRSA (staph infection). Our pediatrician got us in that day and got her started on STRONG anti-biotics.

Hope he gets to feeling better soon.

Is it "watery" or just loose poop?
Our Doctor said (A Pediatric Gastroenterologist we saw for my daughter), that for babies/kids, that the ideal normal poop consistency
is when it is like the consistency of oatmeal or cream of wheat.
Poop consistency can vary....
So, check with your Pediatrician.... since it has been 2 weeks and that is a long time. IF it is diarrhea.... so check with a Doctor.

Ok not to panic you but to give advice..CALL the DOCTOR!!!!...Tell your peds to not dismiss your concern and check and do a urine culture or better yet blood. My gran-baby godbless her soul. Had very loose watery stool for 2 weeks. Her pediatrician said to treat it naturally, rice water, bananas etc..We did.. She had a high fever 1 night and 1 night only! She passed away the second day from a seizure. There were no other symptoms..She had strep. So have them check..because its better to be a neurotic mommy than a sorry one..Sometimes a serious illness can be hidden behind mild symptoms. Goodluck and I hope it is just something absolutely benign. My prayers are with you and your little one. NEVER dismiss your fears when it comes to your family

I would call his doctor. When my son was just about 11 months, he had it for a week. After talking with his Dr., I found out that he had some kind of virus, and was trying to get over it, but was lactose intolerant (just while he had whatever this virus was). Because I was breastfeeding and he was beginning to eat solids, we both had to cut out all milk products for a week. It was tough - I feel so bad for those that are lactose intolerant all the time - but we got through it, and the diarrhea was gone. He had no symptoms at the time of being sick, only the diarrhea.

Does he have any other symptoms besides the diarrhea? Fever? Lethargy? Cranky? Is he teething? Diaper Rash?
When my children were young the quickest way to slow down diarrhea was to feed my little ones bananas...I would avoid applesauce, that always had the opposite effect.
At the very least I would call my pediatrician and ask if there is something over the counter that you can give him to help. You also need to make sure his fluid intake is good, so that he doesn't become dehydrated. Some pedialyte might be in order, to keep his electrolytes in balance.
Good luck to you

When my son had diarrhea for that long, he had no other symptoms. We took him to the doctor and it turned out he had rotovirus. I think you should definitely take him to the doctor. We also used a probiotic called Florastor (available at Walgreens, just ask the pharmacist) which thickened up his stools and got rid of the diarrhea really fast. Good luck!
