Hey mamas
A few days ago another mom asked about an all natural remedy for constipation during pregnancy and was told about one at Trader Joes you can take with tea? Does anybody remember the name of it? I am in much need of it. Thank you

When I was pregnant I had major bouts with constipation. I saw an accupuncturist (sp?). He had me drink Pear or Apricot juice. They have the natural sorbitol that you need to stimulate the bowels and the inching mechanism in the intestines to get things moving down there. I chose to drink Kerns. It worked like a charm!

Hi A.:
My Gastroenterologist, recommends the following, for natural ways to prevent constipation.
Breakfast:corn flakes or all bran flakes with hot milk 1 to 2 times a week. oatmeal once a week.

Eat only fresh or dried fruit every day and change daily so that the same food is not eaten again for ten days.

Yogurt or Activia once or twice a week.

Milk:add 2 to 3 caps of white Karo syrup to a glass of milk

Drink fruit juices every other day and drink 4 to 5 glasses of water a day.
Hope this helps. J. M

Hi A.,
I use cascara sagrada, it's an herb. Walmart even carries it in its herbal section. I take capsules every evening before bed. Works great.

Try eating prunes or prune juice.
All natural and an age ol' remedy.

I don't know the name of the natural remedy, but I do have a suggestion. Ezekiel cereal has been a huge help to me, during pregnancy and otherwise, for constipation. Some do not care for the taste, but I like it with a little fruit. It is made of sprouted grains and with milk is a complete protein. It could be helpful to you. Good luck resolving your situation.
I just thought you might also try the four P's for constipation. I use these with my 2.5 year old and they work great. They are Pears, Peaches, Plums and Prunes.

The only thing I can think of that you might be thinking of shouldn't be taken during pregnancy without consulting your doctor first - namely, the teas containing senna, including Smooth Move tea. While senna is a natural laxative, it is a stimulant laxative and generally not a good idea without checking with your doc. It will make your intestines move more actively, pushing things down the track, but it won't soften the stool at all so it could cause damage coming out.

I'm thinking maybe Smooth Move? But I'd ask your Dr. first if it is OK to take during preg. I have a feeling maybe not. How about mineral oil? Or any oil for that matter? I know someone who takes olive oil. Two tablespoons in a drink before bed. Again, ask your Dr. Miralax is probably safe, but again, ask your Dr. first.

Make sure you are eating a high fiber diet. Ground flaxseed or flax oil daily, fruits, veggies and lots of water. Drink water with lemon squeezed in it. Stay away from fast food and processed foods.

probiotic called PB8. It's the best I've found and it works fast. It's not for constipation,b ut rather bowel health, but it balances out whatever is going on and it helps the baby's immune system if mom is pregnant.

Hi A.- I don't but I have been using ARBONNE's Figure 8 Fiber Boost. Tastless, odorless and easily dissolves in juices or even just water but is great sprinkled on foods.

Even the kids can use this (check age and ask MD if you want).

I am trying to loose weight and I really feel as though it is keeping my system moving and cleaner- less toxic!

In addition, we have a great HERBAL COLON cleanse tablet form that can be taken in the evening an allows natural elimination the next am. NOTHING drastic!!

constipation is a sign of allergies. See NAET.com to eliminate allergies.

Be well.

Try Nux vomica 30c. Low-potency homeopathic remedies, when used acutely, will pose NO harm to you or the baby during pregnancy.
