my 2 1/2 yr old son has just about all his toddler teeth. they all have spaces between each tooth and looks very odd. every single tooth has a gap in between it and the next tooth; top and bottom... my other 3 kids didnt have this. no i've not been to dentist; cant afford to take a 3 yr old right now. just wondering if anyone else has seen this?

My kids dentist said that with spaces you don't have to worry about crowding issues when their bigger permanent teeth come in.. Which also means no need for braces!

His second set of teeth will be completely different. You dont have anything to worry about right now

My daughter has the same thing happening. She's 2 1/2 & she has all of her teeth & they were close together & around 2 months ago, I noticed the spacing between them all. I figured it was normal. I wish i could help, but i'm going to read back again to see the responses you receive about this--now that my curiosity is peaked about it.

The Gap is a good thing. This means his big teeth won't have to push each other to the sides to fit.

I would not worry about it. My middle child had the same thing and our Denticst said he would rather see that than baby teeth lined up right next to one another. The reason is that spaces give the adult teeth enough room without crowding or pushing other teeth out of the way. Your son may also have big teeth (adult I mean)and they need the room. Hope this helps!

That's WONDERFUL!!! If his baby teeth all fit closely together, he'd have little room for the adult teeth to come in. The way your describing his teeth, that's to be desired! Probably, he's the one child you have who won't need braces.

My best friend is a dental hygenist and she has told me in the past that this is great. The gap is to allow space for permanent teeth. Many children that do not have spacing between their teeth will require braces.

This is NORMAL and be glad of it. My son had NO spaces between his teeth and now, at 12, we are starting a regiment of a palate expander to try to make room up top for all of his adult teeth, followed by braces to straighten his VERY crooked teeth top and bottom.

Our dentist told us when he was 3 he would need braces because he didn't have ANY gaps between his baby teeth. They were straight but they were touching.

Sounds pretty normal to me. Each child is different. My oldest had the evenly spaced teeth. My 2nd's teeth were more close together. My daughter's teeth is a cross between her two brothers. We'll have to wait for my youngest to see how his teeth will end up. My 2nd son whose teeth were more close together had braces.

Ditto Dana! My oldest, who had beautiful toddler teeth is in braces and my youngest, who had the spaces, has perfect teeth now! Consider yourself about $5000.00 ahead of the game!

God bless,

It's probably a good sign. When I took my daughter to the dentist at about that age, they told me that there SHOULD be spaces between each tooth at that age, and that since her teeth were touching and did not have spaces, there would probably not be enough room for her adult teeth and she would most likely need braces when she gets older. According to what they told me, sounds like his teeth are perfect.

Spaces between baby teeth is actually a good thing. That usually means no braces later because the permanent teeth have room to come in straight. When the baby teeth are close together, there isn't enough room for the others to come in without making some crooked which is why braces are then needed. My two oldest had spaces and neither have had to have braces. It appears that will be the same case with my two youngest as well.(I'm hoping!)

B.,
Be glad there are spaces between the teeth for a number of reasons. It's easier to clean teeth that have spaces, so less of a chance of cavities. The permanent teeth won't be as crowded when they come in and there is less of a likelihood that your child will have to have braces in the future.
I started taking my kids to the dentist when they were 3 - 5 years old. It helped them to understand how important it is to take care of their teeth.

I was concerned about my youngest daughters teeth looking as you discribed your child's teeth. I did ask the dentist and they told me that was agood thing because her permanent teeth will have more space to grow in. Sure enough, she has the best looking teeth in the house!!! She is the only one NOT in braces.

Hey,
Not sure where you are, but usually the dentist will see your child for free on the first visit. Call around.
Also, my 5 yr-old still have the spaces between her teeth. The dentist isn't very worried and it never ocurred to me to ask about them being so spaced out. Look out for the dentist that will see him for free.

My daughter's are the same way. Her dentist told me that he liked to see that because he knew that way the permanent teeth wouldn't be crowded when they come in. It does look strange now, but if it means no braces later, I'm ok with it! :)

Some of my older son's teeth were spaced like you mentioned and my dentist said that is how they prefer them. He said that more than likely he will not need braces b/c of it. Once the permanent teeth start coming in, I'm sure the spacing will not be as big of an issue. Hopefully everything will be fine. I know as a mother we are worried when each child develops differently. I think it means you're a good Mom!!!

From what I've been told this is totally normal and in fact even a good thing because it means there will be plenty of room for the permanent teeth. My dentist told us that most of the time kids end up with braces b/c they have a crowding issue that leads to teeth coming in crooked. By having plenty of space your child may be able to avoid this and you might save some money on braces.

As other have stated, this is great. Evenly spaced is the way toddlers teeth are "supposed" to be to hold the space for his permanent teeth later. So yay! :-)

My 4 year old granddaughter is the same way. It does look funny but it just mean that when their permanent teeth come in, there will be plenty of room. She's been to the dentist several times and they see no problem with it.
