Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knows of a good allergist for my 2 year old daughter. I finally got her blood work back and they said that there is something on the chart that she is really allergic to but they don't know what it is. They suggested that she go to an allergist at All Children's Hospital in St. Pete but they don't have any opening's till Sept. 11th. I can't wait that long for her she needs some sort of relief before that. I took it upon myself before the test results were back to put here on Claritin-D and she was doing great for 4 days now she is really congested again. I don't know of any good allergist in the CLearwater/Largo area but I will travel where ever just to get her some relief. If anyone knows of one or has any ideas your advice would be appreciated.

I love Dr. Gubernick in St. Petersburg... It can be hard to get an appt so I don't know if you'll get it... But he is the best!
Hi R.! I take my son to Dr. Stephen Kornfeld office in Palm Harbor. We saw Dr. Randall Guttridge and he was very nice. My has a lot of problems nad the Claritin wasn't working for me, the Dr. had me try zyrtec. It has been an amazing difference. I give him a 1tsp every night before bed and I have seen a huge improvement. My son doesn't get his blood work until Aug, b/c we were new to the area and it takes at least 6 months to develope full allergies. But my son also has the peanut allergy. I would like to highly recommend Dr. Susan Player in Clearwater (I think her website is drplayer.com). She is a nutritionist that works with both infants/children and adults, and she is incredible. She works with natural solutions, too, which I find very relieving when it comes to my son.
My daughter has had food and pet allergies since she was a baby and everyone recomened Dr. Gubernick ###-###-####. He can also be hard to get into at first, I had the same problem. What you need to do is tell them her age and ask them to call you if they ever get any cancelations. I think my original wait time was like 3 months but they called like 3 weeks later with a cancellation. He is wonderful with young children and very easy to talk to. God bless.Angie
Look up Dr. Stephen Klemawitz - although I am not sure that is how he spells his name. He would be located in St. Petersburg and I know he is a great allergist! My oldset daughter went to him as a child (she is now 26) and he was fantastic. I have friends that use him now and they rave about him. I'm sure he can help your little girl. Good luck!
I don't know of an allergist, but I would suggest calling All Childrens and explaining that this situation is more pressing than requesting a routine exam or allergy test. Explain her condition and that it would be impossible for her to wait till September. Ask for their recommendations for another allergist Dr that they refer to if a child can not wait. I'm sure they know others in the area, or region. Maybe even go on a wait list and accept whatever comes open. I would assume that they will take you in sooner or refer to someone that can.... My pediatrician recommended zyrtec for my 22 month old. I would give that a try if the Claritin is no longer working. Good luck!

Have you looked up Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Associates of Tampa Bay? They are located by USF in Tampa. I drive from St Pete Beach to there. They are researching doctors, so I really like that about them. My 2 year old son is going for his testing next week.

We love our allergist (well the practice more than the actual doctor... we rarely see him). The reason I like it the most is for my son... rather than allergy shots they give sublingual (under the tongue) drops. SOOOOO much easier to pop 4 drops under his tongue daily than to get a shot. Plus no driving for visits weekly. I think there are about 4 or 5 visits in the first few months... initial visit, testing, then a few for the drops, but once they are on maintenance levels (after 8 weeks) you only have to come in once every 3 months.
He is Dr. Roberto Garcia with the Allergi Group and here is the website with locations... don't know if it is too far for you or not. If it is, consider calling around to see if any other doctors will do sublingual treatment. It is common in Europe, but not in the US

My heart goes out to you and your little one! I am so sorry I have no idea who to refer. Sept 11 is too long to wait, she will suffer all summer. These ladies will know who is great in this area.

I have heard that Dr. Kornfeld in Palm Harbor is highly rated. My husband goes there and my friend goes there. So far he's been good for us. He is a pediatric allergist too and I know I was talking with someone who's child went there and they were satisfied as well.
Even before you get in to see a doctor, you can try eliminating possible allergens one by one to see if anything helps. You can try foods. The main food allergies are dairy, eggs, wheat and corn so you could try eliminating them for about a week to see if she sees relief. I see relief from my dairy allergy if I skip it for about a day.

My daughter has allergies to dairy, nuts, wheat, eggs, and the list goes on. She has been seeing Dr. Sher in Largo since she was one. He's kind of a quirky doctor, but very good at what he does. He is well respected in the pediatric community and comes highly recommended by pediatricians and moms alike.
