Hello,
I took my son to his pediatrician and says he has allergies. I gave him some children's benadryl which seemed to help but would like any other advice to ease his discomfort.

Hi J.,
I help families whose children have allergies all the time. We have found by removing toxic and harmful chemicals from the home and using safe products...cleaning and personal care, we have seen major improvments with children and also adult allergies. You can buy many safe products at Whole foods, but we buy from Melaleuca which is wholesale prices. You can call me if you are interested in knowing more about Melaleuca. As a former Kindergarten teacher I am so passionate about helping children.
Thanks,
J.

J., I'd take him to an allergist that specializes in kids to find out for sure and set up a treatment plan. AIR Care in Plano is great - they are right near Presby Plano. One cool thing they do is allergy drops instead of allergy shots, if those are needed. This cuts down big time on reactions and time spent in the doctor's office. Their website is www.aircaremd.com and there is a lot of useful information on there. I'd see Dr. Herrscher or Dr. Santilli in the Plano office - both handle kids a lot and have children of their own. Hope this helps!

Hi J.,

About your son's allergies...I'd suggest taking him to a chiropractor! I know it sounds nuts but it's true. It has helped with so, so many of my kids' problems, from colic to ear infections. I use Dr. Larry Cameron in McKinney. He's wonderful.
There must be a reason WHY your son has allergies, and covering those symptoms up with Benadryl or some other medication isn't the answer! I had terrible seasonal allergies until I started going to a chiropractor when I was 17, and I am now 27 and haven't had them since!
It's worth a shot. Good luck!

Glyconutrients have helped my 3 kids tremendously! It's all natural with no herbs. It boosts the immune system too. I highly recommend it and would love to tell you more about these wonderful products.
I homeschool, so you can call me anytime during the day or evening @ ###-###-#### (cell#).

I would suggest that you take your child to a pediatric allergist and find out what he is allergic to and then maybe you can elliminate the allergen without giving meds.
best wishes

Hi Jerleen,
Two of my sons have really bad allergys as well. Clariton for children can now be bought over the counter. You can buy the tablet that melts in their mouth for easy swallowing. This helps my sons tremendously. It does take a few days to get into their system and work, so if you choose to use this allergy medicine, don't feel frustrated if there isn't an immediate result.
Hope this helps,
H.

If I knew then what I know now, I would go the alternative medicine route. Drugs just temporarily mask the real underlying cause of most autoimmune diseases (allergy is one). Consider a naturopath and give them a chance. Holistic approach considers the long-term issues healing and is focused on using natural remedies/approaches to help the body restore and heal itself. Restoring the immune system is best done thru self-healing mechanisms -- conventional medicine doesn't really focus onthis type of healing. Research natural healing. There's so much of it on the Net. I and my family relate to your allergy issues but I have learnt thru yrs of mistakes. There's room for both natural and conventional medicine but we should be judicious in determining which way is best. Sometimes we learn thru costly mistakes and it doesn't sound like you're there. Please give it some thought if you haven't.

Hi J.,

My son and I both have terrible seasonal allergies. He is 7 and has had them since shortly after he was born. He has asthma associated with them as well. He takes claritin (OTC)only when needed and Singulair daily, which helps with the allergies and to prevent asthma flare ups. He takes Advair as well, but that is a preventative med for the asthma. We went to an EENT doctor who specializes in seasonal allergies here in Carrollton (Dr. David Chihal). He had us do RAST tests to find out specifically what we are allergic to. (We had blood drawn and sent to a lab.)
Then Dr. Chihal used that information to make our personalized allergy shots. My basic understanding is that allergy shots desensitize your immune system to the things you are allergic to. I have to say that since starting allergy shots (about a year ago) both of us take less over the counter medicine even during the times of year when the pollens that we are allergic to are high.

You might investigate allergy shots if your son has these kinds of allergies, and you think he could tolerate weekly shots. For us it has been a more effective and cheaper long term solution than being sick all the time and spending lots of money on medicines that were only covering up symptoms.

I believe my son has allergies as well. I give him Benadryl, but don't like to do that a lot-it makes him sleepy, etc...I just made an appointment with a pediatric allergy-immunology doctor in Frisco. They will meet with you to discuss symptoms, etc...and then do testing so you can find out exactly what it is he's allergic to. I haven't been yet-we go Monday-so I can't say if they are good or not. But here's the phone number:
