I am just about 18 weeks pregnant and my allergies are KILLING me! With my doctor's approval I have been taking one CVS brand claritan in the morning and 2 Benadryl before I go to bed. I can't take Benadryl any other time of the day because I teach Elementary school and the Benadryl makes me to drowsy to function. Does anyone have anything that worked for them and didn't make them fall asleep on their feet? I'm desperate!!!

What can I do next?

Try taking a tablespoon of honey from a local source daily. Since it's made from local plants, it will help to immunize your system against local pollen allergens.

Hi K.. When I was pregnant with my first child I was told that I could take zyrtec for my allergies and it wouldn't harm my baby. He is 3 years old now and very healthy. Ask your ob/gyn about zyrtec and see what he says.

My doctor told me to take Claritin as well (the 24 hour one). It worked the first time around (I was getting sinus dripping at night), but didn't work the next couple of times I had sinus drainage. I was up at night trying to clear my throat by swallowing and coughing so much I ended up with a sore throat. I ended up getting some cough drops to help with that.

Hi K.
I know the feeling you are having I went threw the same thing when I was pregnant with my son. I took regular Sudafed. It didn't make me sleepy but it made my son active. But my allergies cleared up, quick. Have a good day

Sudafed is safe. That's what I took. (the kind with 30mg of pseudoephedrine in each tablet). The pseudoephedrine keeps you awake. You can take 2 tablets at a time. Drink plenty of water when you use it. I had my baby 6 weeks ago. It's perfectly safe to use during pregnancy and it really helps.
