I have the worst dry skin on my body that I've ever had. Not flaky (yet!)but really rough and in some places "bumpy" (keratosis pilaris). Ugh! Have any really good creams or home-treatment tips to recommend?
Thanks!

I've just been given this tip from an amazing looking 70 year old friend - use rice bran oil, yep just straight from the grocery store (or health food store if it's hard to find) it's about $3.00 for a big bottle and your skin will end up looking smooth and silky.
She also recommended to rub some on the perineum if you're a bit dry down there!
Whenever I have a question about skin care, I go to www.skintypesolutions.com, click on forum and ask my question. You can either search by key word and see what comes up, or you can post a question. They are very helpful and knowledgeable.
For dry skin and keratosis I would say to try a cream that has lactic acid or glycolic acid; something that would exfoliate and hydrate. If you see that the situatuon doesn't improve, go to a dermatologist and see what he/she says.

Jason makes great skin products. You need to go to a vitamin or Whole foods type of store to buy the products.
Also Aveeno makes great products as well.
Good Luck!

I worked at Sephora for 3 years and helped people with KP all the time. Try Dermadoctor KP Duty. It's a lotion that has glycolic acid and urea. I had clients who swore by this stuff and had been using this for years. It works! Sephora.com
Aveda makes a great product called Hand Relief.... they also have Foot Relief, which I think would be better for your issue.
The thing I love about Aveda is that their products are all organic/plant based and they dont have an overpowering smell, nor do they leave you feeling oily/greasy.
You will only be able to find these products in an Aveda Salon... I am sure there is one in Pittsburgh, but in case you can't find one, you can call the one I work at in Morgantown.... It is called Body In Balance and the number is ###-###-####. Idk if they will ship or not, but it is worth a try if you cant locate a shop up there!
hope that helps!

My son has keritosis pilaris and I have eczema on my hands. Try this: Farouk Silk Therapy. It's actually a hair product. It's like an oil, but it is amazing for skin. Good luck! As for the kp....not much you can do except exfoliate and moisturize. Have you ever tried Aqua Glycolic?
try cutemol. It was recommended as an over the counter product from my dermatologist. you may have to special order it from the pharmacy. It works really well on my very dry hands. Hope this helps.
Hi! Try a lactic acid or alpha hydroxy acid lotion. You can get one at the drugstore that is pretty good called Amlactin (I think, I could be off on the name--sometimes they keep it in the pharmacy) I remember it being a green and white tube. If you prefer natural/organic stuff, google Juice Beauty products--they have a lot of natural fruit acid lotions--same idea.
It sounds weird, b/c it's not rich lotion, but it works to loosen and remove the dead cells and let them exfoliate, and it also somehow hydrates the new ones. Your skin will feel so soft after only a couple of days. Good luck!
I had some issues with KP after the birth of my first child. I saw a dermatologist and he offered me a prescription but also said that it might be due to hormonal changes following birth. He suggested that I could try an over the counter lotion if I didn't want to try a prescription. He suggested and I used Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Lotion twice a day for several months and this cleared up the problem and I've had no recurrence.
Hey, S.! I can relate to you.--My skin used to get SO dried out in the winter that it would literally crack & bleed! It was awful!
The most important thing is that you MUST avoid products that will only make it worse (ie: petroleum based products, such as Aquafor, Vaseline, etc...). These products sit on top of your skin & can literally dry it from the inside out. It FEELS like they're working b/c they sit on top of your skin, but if you stop using them, you'll notice that your skin feels much worse, instead of better. In other words, they're not healing your skin, they're damaging it further.
You need to use something that your body recognizes & can actually absorb. So it needs to be natural. Something that comes from a rock or fossil fuel can not be absorbed by the human body beyond the 1st or maybe 2nd layer of skin.
I have been using L'Bri Pure n' Natural products for....I guess about 6 yrs now & my skin is night & day compared to what it used to be! I had such incredible results that I decided to become a rep for them. I don't remember where in PA you live.--If it's close to Easton/Lehigh Valley, I'd be happy to meet you someplace & give you some samples to try if you like. If not, you can order some for free (you just pay for shipping) off the site: www.A..lbri.com On the site, there is some REALLY good info on other things that you want to avoid in products & the reasons why. Off the top of my head, I know you also want to avoid: artificial colors & fragrances, Lanolin, Acetone, Alcohols, mineral oil, borax, water....I know that there's more.
I hope you find something that helps you!
Hi S.,
Sounds like you got good advice already. My skin is very dry as well, not as yours sounds, but either way what I do is take a vitamin B complex or Skin complex and use Retinol cream. You can get it all very reasonably priced through Vitamin World. I have had much success. Just make sure to use facial sunscreen as well. :0)
hi S.-
you may want to look at what you are eating as a source of your dryiness, too. often times, it is a lack of the essential fatty acids in teh body that are creating your alligator skin rather than just not using the right lotion.
so my suggestion is to add flax seed oil (must be refrigerated and only buy what you will use in a 3 month period) and take 1/2-1 tsp daily of the oil. you can also use it in dressings but you just cannot cook with it.
you may also want to add fatty foods like coconut oil, coconut milk, avocado, nuts (walnuts adn almonds) and cold water fish (salmon, tuna, mackerel, herring, etc) to increase those good fats in the body.
if you have those bumpy patches, espeically on the back of the arms, the flax seed oil will clear that up in a couple of weeks. and then make sure you drink enough water. yes, water. cause it may be a hydration issue added on top of everything else.
hope that helps!

Auquaphor is amazing. The dermatologist told me to use it after a shower pat dry and apply all over. It is very greasey so I only use a night. You can buy this at walmart for $14. A little pricey but worth every penny.
