Im trying out going dairy free for my baby, is almond milk any good, and its dairy free right?
YES, I have a newborn and breastfeeding and eliminating dairy from my diet, I think she may have a dairy allergy. Not sure though, just trying it out.

I always recommend eliminating dairy, whether you find out she has an allergy or not. I'm enthusiastic about this because my son's constant ear infections cleared up completely when we stopped drinking milk.
I'm pretty sure you're talking about eliminating dairy from YOUR diet, not your baby's. Almond milk is delicious! And 100% dairy free. We love Silk's dark chocolate almond milk :) And congratulations on your new baby!
My daughter is on Silk Almond Milk- she has milk protein and soy allergy. She loves it! Regular and vanilla. She was on whole milk to test to see if she still had the allergy (which she did) and had no problems transitioning. I, myself have tasted it, and the vanilla definitely has a sweeter taste. It does have less calories and fat, so you may have to supplement with other foods to make sure she is getting the nutrients she needs.
*** Just realized you are eliminating from your diet- I would try the vanilla- better taste.
Many brands of almond milk are dairy free, however, almond milk does not provide the nutrition that cow's milk does. Talk to your pedi about nutrients your baby will miss if you eliminate dairy (and how to get those nutrients in other forms). I have a child that can't have most dairy and we've had to supplement with other foods.
Yes, it is lactose free and SO yummy :)
My kids (5 and 1) LOVE coconut milk. :)
My son is Lactose Intolerant so we have him and ourselves on Whole Lactaid milk. It has made him so much happier now. He used to have such bad tummy trouble and cried so much but ever since we switched he seems to feel much better, and so do I.
It's the only milk that doesnt make him sick too.
All almond milk's are not created equal. I vote for Almond Breeze.
I have not tried some of the newer brands on the market, but when I started out I tried several, and Almond Breeze beat out the others by quite a bit. It is dairy free. My daughter enjoys it also, although she also drinks regular milk.
LOVE it!!! We use the vanilla and it is so delicious. In fact, we all prefer it to cow's milk, so we only use cow's milk in coffee and cereal. It is lactose free and has more calcium than cow's milk.

Almond milk has a strong flavor of almonds. I like Silk Very Vanilla. It is sweet but filling like milk. Nut allergies could also cause problems. Good for you looking for a way to continue breast feeding.
1st ask your pediatrician, one of my daughters drinks almond milk but she has a cow milk allergy. I had her try soy milk, coconut milk and some others before she told me that she liked Almond Milk.
We use almond milk and I love it, as do my son and husband.
With the high incidence of nut allergies I do not believe almond milk would be the way to go. You could end up with a nut AND dairy allergic baby. My daughter is allergic to both actually. She drinks rice milk because I err on the side of caution with the whole soy debate and almond milk is obviously not a conceivable option.
Almond milk is good for some purposes. Rice milk is also good. When I was GFCF, I preferred Rice Milk for cereal and Almond Milk for drinking. I also used coconut milk for some cooking. These all tend to taste sweeter than cows milk so you may want to adjust how much sugar you include with a recipe.

Yes, almond milk is dairy free. So is soy milk and rice milk. You can also sometimes buy coconut milk that has nutrition added (like vit/minerals).
Do compare the brands and the different types of non-dairy milks, because the nutrition/fat/calories/carbs (aka sugar) will vary a lot between types (soy vs. rice vs. almond) and also somewhat between brands.
You could also try getting Lactaid, which has the lactose already broken down, making it tolerable for many with dairy intolerance. Most dairy intolerance is due to the body's inability to break down lactose.
Just fyi, drinking almond milk will not cause your baby to develop a nut allergy. But if you have concerns, check with your pediatrician. And if you do have allergies, particularly food allergies, in your family, you may want to talk to your pediatrician first before making changes.
